January 30, 200917 yr Because as a Christian you are told to.Sorry, I don't see where the Bible tells me to care about someone that doesn't care. Can you enlighten me?
January 30, 200917 yr If it is about "caring," can't that change? How can we get that to happen. You wouldn't like my answer.
January 30, 200917 yr Author How are you getting that? It doesn't seem that people responding in this thread think that some people are "unfixable" - that they CAN change and be productive people. In another thread it was stated that the infrastructure project was going to be giving jobs to people that were unemployable and unchangable (sp?). Am I missing something?
January 30, 200917 yr Author You wouldn't like my answer. I value your honest opinion, even if I didn't "like" it.
January 30, 200917 yr Sorry, I don't see where the Bible tells me to care about someone that doesn't care. Can you enlighten me? I assume you are kidding here . . . The two greatest commandments are to Love God and Love You Neighbor. The religious leaders asked Jesus who their neighbor was, and with the story of the good samaritan He showed that it was everyone. So it is actually a COMMANDMENT from JESUS himself that you love everyone else as much as you love yourself. That is the whole story of the new testament - "God Loves you therefore you should love everyone." WOW - how did you miss that?

WOW - how can you twist even the Bible to fall in line with your political views? :ohbrother: I love myself enough to WORK. I expect the same of them, if I care enough about myself to get off my rear go to work why would I expect anyone else to anything less? If someone doesn't care about about working, I have no reason to care that they're lazy and as a result, poor. I'm not feeling much love from you Ace, don't you care?
January 30, 200917 yr I value your honest opinion, even if I didn't "like" it.It would result in taking kids away from their worthless parents.

But that's not a twist of the Bible. Ace, agree with where he's coming from or not, is merely quoting what Jesus said. He said it with no qualifiers and no addendum. If you don't feel that way that's fine but then again I don't think it would be Ace twisting those scriptures he cited.

If you don't feel that way that's fine but then again I don't think it would be Ace twisting those scriptures he cited.Look, neither you or Ace are Jesus or Bible experts IMO, I don't need a religion lesson, I go to church. Jesus did not say, feel sorry for the lazy guy and give him a free handout. The Bible talks about being productive and not being idle as well, did we forget about that?

I don't deny the scripture you point out in the last sentence however the issue was what Ace quoted. You stated he twisted it. He did not. Jesus didn't speak at all about "feeling sorry," he said, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind and Love your Neigbor as you love yourself." It mentions nothing about feeling, it calls us to love. So

Jesus did not say, feel sorry for the lazy guy and give him a free handout. The Bible talks about being productive and not being idle as well, did we forget about that? You have moved from "I don't see where the Bible tells me to care" to "Jesus did not say feel sorry . . ." I agree that Jesus did not say to give a free handout, although that is exactly what Jesus did by coming here and if we were to emulate him we would do the same, Jesus said to Love everyone. Jesus even said that his MISSION was to bring the good news to the poor. Isaiah 61:1 (i even went to the Old Testament):sssh: "The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. Luke 4:18ff "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach ggod news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to realease the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor . . . Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing" Jesus is so focused on the poor that He says it will be easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter the gates of heaven. Thank God Jesus uses a lot of hyperbole or else he would be saying that it would be impossible for a rich man to get to heaven becaus we all know they ain't no camel going through the eye of a needle. So I say to honestly answer TBs question - we love them and we help them. We get to know them so we can discern the type of help they need and then we provide. We understand that it won't always take the first time so we have to love them yet again, and again, and again, until they get it right and then we rejoice with them. If it is job training we get it for them. If it is child care so they can go to school and/or work we get it for them, if it is heating assistance in the winter we get it for them . . . for whatever we do unto the least of these . . . well you know the rest.

So yuk it up, you surely aren't practicing what you're preaching either by your attitude. :sssh: Care to show how I'm going against the "Love Thy Neighbor" Commandment? You can't because I'm not. To be blunt with you Hatz, I'll listen to my priest, not a precher, no offense intended.

Oh good Lord, will you stop quoting scripture to me, as I told Hatz, I prefer to listen to my priest, not someone on BGP trying to preach to me. Did it ever occur to you that people don't care for someone interpreting what they think Scripture means? Not everyone sees it the same as you nor do they care too. Nothing personal, I don't mean to offend you, but when people start in on Scripture with me it really turns me off. I go to church, that's really the only place I want Scripture quoted to me, Again, nothing personal.

I go to church, that's really the only place I want Scripture quoted to me, Again, nothing personal. I would prefer that you not quote your opinion to me and yet you do because this is a free board. Maybe you should ask your priest what we are supposed to do with the poor, or spend some time in the scripture yourself. I didn't interpret, I just put out there for you to read and you can do with it what you wish. I am sorry that you think your religious beliefs have no bearing on how we treat the poor, that is the primary focus of mine. It is what drives my opinions. I cannot separate how I think we ought to treat the poor from what the scripture says. What moral authority are you using in your judgment of how we should treat them?

Just because people think SOME are fixable doesn't mean they do not exist, they do. There are all kinds of ideas on here. I haven't seen any that haven't been tried over and over and over and ..... you get the idea. There is more dreaming on here than reality. I wish it weren't so.
