I dont think McCreary has as much overall "talent" as you seem to believe, but everyone has their own opinion.

 

I think you're right. They've had good talent and even though they've beat Lincoln during the regular season the last two years, I'm not sure they were good enough to beat the Patriots in the postseason either year. For that matter, I would have picked Boyle County (with Spencer Perrin) over them two years ago.

 

The people of McCreary are upset about the district upsets and rightfully so. But they wouldn't have had cakewalks to Rupp Arena and for anyone to argue otherwise is wrong.

I think the people of McCreary have good reason to be upset. Favorites and have a very sub par season going. I think barring a really strong performance in the post season ,the people in McCreary get their wish and get a new coach. I have heard rumors of who some are wanting but I will refrain from saying at this point.

I don't think the two district first round losses were as bad as everyone seems to make them out to be. Two years ago they lost in overtime to a Wayne County team that had beaten them twice during the season and that game was at Wayne County. Was it even an upset? Last year even though it was an upset if you look at the last couple of weeks of the season when SW barely lost to Wayne, was in a close game with Lincoln early in the fourth and had McCreay down by double digits before losing by five. McCreary barely beat Williamsburg and lost to Green County, you could see the possibility of an upset coming.

As for this season I haven't seen them near enough but it seems they just can't play consistently and therefore I don't think they can get through a regional tournament unless they get a good draw and/or luck out and meet someone who pulls a big upset in the regional.

All very good points. And people should also remember that McCreary only has 1 senior. Watts (a junior) is very good, but he's not enough by himself and they don't have much experience to go with him.

See, I tend to disagree with the talent statement. I think Phillips, Swiger, and Watts were three of the better players in the region last year. And certainly, Watts is the best this year, but closely followed by the PG from West and the kid from Lincoln.

 

Position for position, I think the overall talent of McCreary was better than most in the 12th region last year. Of course, some teams had explosive guards and talented big men. But as a whole, I think McCreary was the most talented.

Raider Rob has been good for McCreary basketball, but on the other hand, he has never had the post season success that most expected with the talant that he has had. There have been some suspect losses in past season and this season too, sometimes guys can get a team to a certain level but never ove the hump. Coaches post season success is what people judge them on and there is no defense to his lack of post season success. He might be a great guy and he might have politics in his favor, but if the lack of post season success continues, politics have a way of changing in a hurry. Remember those folks are voted into office, and if there is enough upset parents and supporters then he could be a man on an island.

Politics asside, if you have Watts, you should be able to make it into the weak 12th region tournamnet for the last two years... Atleast last year.

 

Lincoln has walked into Rupp Arena for the last two years in a row and McCreary can't get out of their weak district.

I watched Watts play, and he seemed very uninspired, especially on the defensive end. If your best player doesnt always play hard, you are in trouble. If the coach benches him, I have no doubt they lose. Regardless of what you say, there are at least 4 or 5 more talented teams in the region, especially without Watts.

Does anyone really beleive that Watts isn't inspired to play at tournament time. I wittnessed The loss to Pulaski SW last season and Jones was out coached and his team was outplayed. They had the talent advantage by a ton. They never adjusted to SW's back door cuts and slow down Offence.

Remember, Rob has been Coach of the Year 2 in a row. Watts has been best player in the region 2 years in a row. One has to think Politics could have been involved in the Coach of the Year Vote. McCreary has 7 kids dressing Varsiety that can Dunk a Basketball. This dosn't make you a good player but it does indicate the talent leval.

He should've got that team, with all that talent, to the 12th region tournament the last two years. Watts has been the best, or one of the best players in the region for the past 3 seasons. He alone should be enough to advance in the weak 12th region.

Watts has taken a team anywhere! He has not proven he can win at any level in the post season. Baseball, Football or Basketball. All three have the same number of wins with Watts in post season. ( 0 ) past two years!

 

He did get a district and region win as a 8th grader. Back win sports were important to him.

 

He has been to the playoffs in football by beating Madison Southern 1-9 and 0-10. Thats like getting in district tournament.
