How do we measure that?

 

I'm not proposing some sort of minimum for people to call themself "Catholic". I know that is unrealistic and impossible to objectively measure that. I'm just speaking to the disappointment that I feel that people can really consider themselves Catholic without doing anything Catholics should do, knowing anything about being Catholic, or following any of the beliefs that Catholics believe. To me, Catholic is a religion first and a cultural identity second. (Take that, RM! :lol:)

Mass isn't found in scripture, but worship is. I believe its just another way of the Catholic religion worships compared to the way we worship. Apples/Oranges. Thats what the thread topic was asking.

 

I know that the Catholic folks and myself differ, but thats not what the question was, and I've been trying to stay on the topic.

 

As long as we believe in the same Lord Jesus as Savior thats the main issue, whether its a Mass or a service.

 

I've been in several Catholic weddings where they did some things that I had no clue in what was going on.

 

For Ladies...before we do the Lord's supper our minister will ask the folks ..."if you have not accepted Jesus as your Savior and been baptized into a church, do not partake of the Lord's Supper." So a Catholic person could partake in our church.

But does not Scripture talk about those that are Christians and not having the right mindset when they are taking communion?

Yes, 1st Corinthians 11:27-34. But the mindsets of a lot Christians usually need refocusing.

If you've been to a catholic wedding then chances are that you've been to Mass since most (not all) Catholic weddings are performed as part of a Mass.

I guess it is because I have been raised in it, but I wonder what people are confused about during a Catholic mass. I'd like to try to clear things up.

Just think how confused they would have been when we had the Mass in Latin.

On a side note, maybe that is why Trinity's football offense is successful ----because it is Catholic-confusing.

:thumb: No doubt, I'm sure you are right. I never said it was a chiefly Catholic complaint. However, as a Catholic, I can not make widespread judgments on other denominations, because I have not seen as many of them as I have among Catholics.

And I have found something that is much deeper for me and my path than piking sides on who is the Savior. I'm positive we'll never agree on this one...

Although, I still would be interested to hear about Buddhism from someone who actually practices the religion. I've read about it, but I learn much more and reach a better understanding about religions by talking to someone actually involved in it.

As for the thread, I'd have no problem attending a Catholic Mass. I've watched a few on TV (EWTN?).
