Took a Catholic girl to her prom at Brossart. We went to a Saturday evening mass beforehand.

 

If nothing else we're flexible.

When only exposed to one or similar types of services your whole life it really is a culture shock sometimes when you see how some of the other denominations do it.

 

I went on vacation with a girl a few years ago to visit her family back up in Michigan. I am Catholic and they attended the Church of the Nazarene. That was definitely an awkward experience for me. Very different.

I went to an Old Regular Baptist service at Sassafras Holler in Knott County with my dad when we went back to where he grew up.

 

They have no regular preacher, but whomever feels led to preach, preaches that day. 4 of them on the day I was there. Very different service than what I was used to.

I was raised catholic, so I've been to plenty...

I do not hold to the teachings of the Catholic faith so I have no desire to attend a Mass where I would not feel comfortable participating or where I would not be invited to participate. Devout Catholics would never attend a service (keep in mind I said Devout) at a Baptist church or one of another faith for the very same reasons. The teachings are very different. I do not intend to offend anyone but you asked and I answered.

FWIW, you would be invited to participate in any facet of the Catholic Mass except for the Eucharist.

It was something else.

 

The pulpit is in the middle and the members sit behind the preacher with guests and others in front. So the pulpit is surrounded.

 

They said some Sundays 1 or 2 show up to preach and other Sundays 6 to 8 will show up to preach.

 

Whomever the Lord is talking to and wants them to get up and say something gets up and says something.

I've never been to one. Our county has had a Catholic church since the early 1980's. Their membership has grown over the years, but to be honest I would guess that few Owsley Countians know very much about the Catholic faith. I know my deceased dad surely didn't. I remember him saying that when he was in WW II with Catholic buddies that they would party all weekend and then go to confession and get forgiveness. I know that's not how it is, but he sure thought it was. He didn't know much about the religion, but he said it sounded like a pretty good deal to him.

In the same (half-)joking manner, a lot of Catholics think of Protestants as those who go to church on Sunday and do whatever they want the rest of the week, the whole "preacher's daughter" thing.....But like I said, we know that is not how it really goes.:thumb:

Unfortunately, for too many it is like that.

And a thing that we try and teach and teach about.

Being a Christian is 24/7, not going to Sunday service to pay their fire insurance.

Same holds true for Catholics. Something unbelievably depressing for me is how cultural "Catholic" has become. It's less religious and more cultural

We have had this discussion before but I still hold that faith is less about who we are rather than who God is. Jesus Christ is God, Savior, and Lord for all.

And I have found something that is much deeper for me and my path than piking sides on who is the Savior. I'm positive we'll never agree on this one...

And I am positive we will. Every knee with bow, every tongue confess.

Technically, you have picked a side on who the Savior is.

I would also add this. What others do or don't do, shouldn't run you off of Christianity.

 

They are responsible for their actions. You, yours.

 

If I felt the same way, I would no longer be a Christian seeing Christians casting ballots for candidates that thinks this country should continue the practice of abortion.
