HCBearsFan32
John is a good guy and all but top 10 in the state (knowledge wise)? Are you kidding? I remember his last year at Cawood they went 6-12. Looking at their schedule, they lost 23-1 in 3 innings to Middlesboro and 10-0 to Whitesburg. I'm not quite sure he got the most out of his kids in these games. At least I hope not. Like I said, he is a nice guy but he's just not an outstanding coach. HCHS would have to beat Bell and Middlesboro to even get to region and I don't see it happening. Bell is the reigning regional champ and Middlesboro should be revamped with their old coach back in there. Also, I've heard that district is set up so they have win 2 of 3 on Monday and Tuesday in order to win the advantage of seeding. Do you really think their pitching is deep enough to win 2 of 3 I remember these 2 games very well, And reasons to losing against Whitesburg had nothing to do with baseball at all, And I think we put up 15+ runs on them at cawood in 2 innings, M'boro did beat us 23-1, After that game, a lot of players changed positions, including me, next game, they won 7-5....Don't draw a conclusion on John based on 2 games....We'll see in time... LMU20
Does anybody know of any players from the 13th region being serriously considered at any D-1 schools for baseball?
cards1b21
I think the team to beat this year will be Clay Co. Well coached and most all their starters returning.Another team to watch out for by tournment time will be North Laurel, the best group of Freshman to ever come in. That's the first time I think I have ever heard Clay County described as well coached. Luck of the draw, was the theme for last year. I don't think they will be so lucky this year. But, that's why we play the games. My honest assessment is that the traditional 3 will be at the top come tournament time: SL, Corbin, and Middlesboro. All three have the most experienced coaching staffs and are traditional powers. Not to mention, each of them return their nucleus of players. Bell changed coaches and to be perfectfly honest, I'm not sure Smith has it in him to win a regional tournament. Clay County is Clay County and North Laurel has the numbers but lacks the stars. cards1b21
Well then, what about the year before that when they went 7-10 or even the year before that when they went just 16-12 going 0-5 against SL, NL, and Middlesboro. You say we'll see in time but again, he has coached before and has a record to draw from. And how did losing a baseball game have nothing to do with baseball "at all"? big impact
Corbin's pitching staff would include, Josh Smith, Ben Jones, Logan Matlock, Colton Hanson, Ben House, Omar McDaniel, and Trace Vorbeck.
LMU20
I'm concerned about SL hitting. They never could hit in the clutch situations. They have a great young coach but he lacks the experince. Outfield play really concerns me about their squad. Corbin has a great coaching staff but graduated lots of experience. Clay Co. has a lot to prove from last years final game. Coach Griffin knows how to win and plans on showing his experinced squad this year how to go the distance.

LMU20
I think they have overlooked mountain baseball. I'm like you, I think Harlan County might surprise lots of people.

You mean they didn't get to play or they decided not to play? Fact is that there hasn't been a team in the 13th region that has been great at every spot on the field. That is where coaching comes in. A coach coach makes those bad players into average players that can at the very least field their position. They might very well prove me wrong and by all means, with the numbers they have, they SHOULD have a monster. I think they picked the wrong guy though. I thought they should have went outside the system to find someone who has been winning for a while to inject some sort of renewed energy into an area that hasn't won a regional title in over a decade. The rest are junior's and senior's and that usually means experience and leadership.

The Breeze
:banana:Ready for some Black Bear Baseball:banana: Does HC have a new baseball field? Their gym is the nicest high school one around, I would guess the other fields etc. will follow suit.

What really concerns me about the 13th region is the lack of great hitters. This region is usally won on 2 maybe 3 avg. pitchers and hitting is know longer part of the equation.
