ladiesbballcoach Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Wow now even silence is promoting God and unconstitutional. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,481427,00.html CHICAGO — A federal judge has ruled that a state law requiring a moment of silence in public schools across Illinois is unconstitutional, saying it crosses the line separating church and state. "The statute is a subtle effort to force students at impressionable ages to contemplate religion," U.S. District Judge Robert W. Gettleman said in his ruling Wednesday. As passed by the Illinois General Assembly, the law allows students to reflect on the day's activities rather than pray if that is their choice and defenders have said it therefore doesn't force religion on anyone.
HT721 Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 The liberal war on God in the federal courthouse continues.
Habib Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 While I don't see the necessity of a state law requiring a daily moment of silence, I don't see where it crosses the line of state endorsement of religion either.
Fastbreak Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 This is absolutely insane... Just one more stone in the path leading our country down the tubes...
Run To State Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 No surprise that this comes out of Chicago.
ladiesbballcoach Posted January 23, 2009 Author Posted January 23, 2009 No surprise that this comes out of Chicago. California, yes. San Fran, absolutely. But why do you say that about Chicago? On a side note, I just found it amusingly funny that silence is now unconstitutional.

acemona Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 My question is why you need to have a state mandated moment of silence in pulbic schools. If/when my children pray about school we do it at supper and when they go to bed. I don't want someone mandating a moment of silence when they should be teaching him math. If there is a particular event that calls for a moment of silence, sure . . . but mandated every day???? What is the point??? The decision is not an attack on God or religion - maybe the moment of silence was an attack on something, but this is defense of education and individual rights of students.
FootballisKing Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 They don't use the time for education. Wake up. There are many more things throughout the day that could save them time for education. Or do they need more time to ensure that every kid can properly fill out a test? I think it is liberal stuff that this is even discussed.
cch5432 Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 I never went to public school. Are you allowed to pray privately?
Habib Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 I never went to public school. Are you allowed to pray privately? How would anyone know? And yes.
ladiesbballcoach Posted January 23, 2009 Author Posted January 23, 2009 I never went to public school. Are you allowed to pray privately? As the old saying goes, as long as there are tests in school, there will be prayers in school.
