IMO George W. Bush made some very tough decisions and I believe he did to the best of his ability as our Commander in Chief. However, he will get the blame for anything that goes wrong for the next ten years. Overall, I think he did the best he could for the past 8 years and he will look back and smile at his time of being president.

Why? They have been classless to him since the election of 2000.

I guess its hard to shed a tear for a guy when he took over we had a surplus of $236 billion, the largest surplus in American history. The unemployment rate has doubled, and of course you know about the recession.

Who said anything about shedding a tear?

We simply said to show some respect for the Presidency and his position and not boo him, sing 'Hey, hey goodbye!"

And of course you guys will cheer for the guy coming in, whose one of his first actions will be to sign an executive order allowing for taxpayer money to be used for the killing of unborn children. Be very proud of that.:thumb:

This site prevents unfounded claims. Prove to me that Bill Clinton left Bush a surplus. This tells me otherwise (you must fill in the dates).

I'm not defending Bush's spending, but your statement is untrue

I am not a fan of GWB. The biggest point of division for me was/is Iraq. I didn't vote for him either time, but until Iraq, I had no major issues with him. After that, there were still things he did that I agree with, positions he took.

All that said, I gave a lot of thought over the last few months, and feel that regardless of my differences with him on Iraq, I (as an American) owe him thanks, because he did hold the job for 8 years. While I think his motives and methods in the decision to go into Iraq were completely different than he tried to convey, he still had other things on his plate that he dealt with that we owe him thanks for.

I wondered how hard it must be to leave the job. How hard, but how uplifting at the same time. How do you just walk away from being the leader of a nation as great and vast and diverse as the United States? How do you just walk away from being one of the major players in the world? He did so with grace and class. Well done!

I'm much more interested in GWB, the person. I'll be following closely to see what turns his life takes next. As with many ex-Presidents, I think a more true depiction of their character is what they do after they leave the Presidency...after the ambition has gone, after the pressures of being President are gone.

I may eventually wind up having a completely different opinion of him.

So, to sum it up, thanks GWB. Take some well deserved time off, and do great things in the future.

Very classy post RM. And you didn't even have to shed a tear to have respect for the position.:sssh:
