rockmom
'The sum of the parts exceeds the individuals' Joe B. Hall must have seen a few thousand basketball teams during his 80 years on Earth. So when Hall -- who coached the University of Kentucky to the national championship in 1978 -- declares a collection of teenagers from Northeast Kentucky "my all-time favorite team," attention must be paid. A couple of weeks ago on the radio, Hall said his favorite team -- ever -- is the Elliott County High School Lions. The computer likes the Lions, too: They are No. 1 in The Courier-Journal's Litkenhous Ratings. They've averaged 87 points a game on their way to a 13-1 record and are unbeaten against Kentucky schools.
gold sunrise
Nice article. If you have never been to Sandy Hook, then it may be hard for many to realize just what an accomplishment this team has had and what it means to their community. Enjoy the ride Elliott Co fans...a once in a lifetime journey.:thumb:
LRCW
Great article. I hope Coach Joe B. Hall's all time favorite team cuts down the nets in Rupp Arena come March. :thumb:

mcpapa
I know what a huge deal it was here in Maysville in 2003 when the Royals won their first; it meant so much to the folks that had been through the "near-misses" to get to Rupp; the loss in the finals to SK in 1981, etc. I can only imagine how this team has galvanized Sandy Hook and all of Elliott County. Congrats to the Lions on what has been a fantastic run. As GS stated, a once-in-a-lifetime journey.

Ms Liberty
Nice for the town of Sandy Hook and the boys on the basketball team, and all the fans that are with them to the very end. Love those Lions . Thanks Joe B. Hall! !
kentuckyron
"The sum of the parts exceeds the individuals." This very wise quotation really does describe this team perfectly. Make no mistake about it, the team includes some amazingly good individuals, but as a team they are even better. Great article.

sidelinecoach
Over the last 4 years Elliott Co has picked up so many fans like Coach Hall, people who most likely had never been to Sandy Hook. People who had never followed or cheered for another team but their home town team. This is a testament to this team, not many teams can say such things. We all personaly know of one from Garard County, I know of another from Bourbon Co & one from Rowan Co.
d-dawg
I know that in the last four years you have had a very special group of boys, talented and play together well. I love to watch them play but as I asked , will the fan support be the same next season with only one starter back. Maybe so, I remember when basketball was the only thing in our small town and the gym was full regardless of the talent level.
