The 35th District Tournament will be at Holy Cross this year. It was in 2000, 2003,2006, and will be this year. They host it every third year.

There's 4 teams in the district..which means every team host every FOURTH year, not third. Last time Holmes hosted was in 04/05 (not counting last year). This will be the 4th year since they last hosted. KHSAA has the districts being played at Holmes again this year.

The only reason Holmes hosted last year was because Beechwood decided to change the site to Holmes so they could receive a bigger gate from the games. It didn't affect the rotation at all. Beechwood was still considered the host/home school last year during districts.

Holy Cross will host again next year. When Ludlow was in the district they never hosted either and Holmes always took their place, which is why Holy Cross hosted every 3 years. I just spoke to both Dave Henley and Ron Madrick (athletic director) and both confirmed that districts will be played at Holmes this year.

Yes, Holy Cross is hosting it this year. There was a flyer at one of the games to buy a HC chair on the other side of the gym to sit in for the districts, since it will be packed.

Why then does the KHSAA have it being played at Holmes?

It is at Holy Cross this year I can assure you of that. I have been told by Ann Julian (HC AD) that it is at Holy Cross this year as well as seen flyers at Holy Cross's gym.

I am just telling you what I know and what I have been told.

Maybe there's some confusion between the two schools then. Both seem to think it's their turn to host. I'm wondering why the KHSAA has districts being held at Holmes. Had Beechwood held districts at their gym last year, it would be Holmes turn this year, since the last time Holmes would have hosted was 03/04 and last time HC hosted was 04/05. Doesn't make sense for HC to host again before Holmes would.

Has Beechwood ever beaten CovCath?

If not, this is the time and year to do it.

I think the last time was back in the 80's. I wanna say 84. Anyone know for sure?

I can't think of them ever beating the Colonels in the 90's. I agree though that if it's gonna happen anytime soon, this is most likely the best year for the Tigers to pull it off.

What did Highlands do to beat them? Anything different or did they just beat them on talent alone?

The last time HC hosted was '06. I have also spoken with Julian (HC AD). It is at HC. I don't think Beechwood even gets an option to host.

Why?

I just checked the KHSAA website and the 35th goes like this:

1999-Holmes

2000-Holy Cross

2001-Covington Catholic

2002-Holmes

2003-Holy Cross

2004-Covington Catholic

2005-Holmes

2006-Holy Cross

2007-Covington Catholic

2008-Holmes

2009-It would only make sense to be HC.

What did Highlands do to beat them? Anything different or did they just beat them on talent alone?

Combination of both having the superior talent and CCH just making a lot of mental mistakes that led to Highlands getting easy buckets in transition. Close game through 3 quarters both game, and then Covcath made a few mistakes and turned a 5 point deficit in to a 13 point deficit. They can't make mistakes like that against good teams. Same could be said for this game against Beechwood. If CCH makes mental mistakes, B'wood is good enough to capitalize at the other end.

From 99-05, it was a 3 team option because Ludlow didn't want to host and their gym wasn't big enough.

Beechwood came in to the district in the 05/06 season. 07/08 would have been their turn to host, but they wanted a larger gate, so they used Holmes gym instead. Holmes didn't host the tournament last year. Beechwood did, but at Holmes gym. (If that makes sense.)

2009 should be Holmes turn which is why the KHSAA probably has them listed as the host school, even if indeed, it is HC's turn to host.
