January 7, 200917 yr I personally think Windows XP Professional can do anything and everything that I'll ever need. Vista was just a great way for Microsoft to make a few more million dollars. I'm a big fan of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Vista seems like it will be great until you upgrade and then realize you need a different version of Microsoft Office, your games don't work anymore, your printer no longer works, and much of your other programs have to be reinstalled or repurchased. I guess it is alright if you buy it new and don't have anything that you need it to be compatible with, but if you're upgrading - jerk the wallet out because you're going to need it. When I upgraded to Vista I had to replace 2 programs and my scanner, everything else worked fine. My new scanner is much better them my old one and I like it better, I love the latest version of Qucken and Office (The two programs that I had to replace). I have both a laser and ink jet printer and both work just fine with Vista, in fact when Vista detected them and loaded the proper drivers for both. In total when I upgraded I spent just less then $1000. I really didn't think that was to bad considering how much better my system is now then my old one.
January 7, 200917 yr That is blasphemy. IMO, there is nothing better about Vista. It's not as bad as some make it out to be, but I can't believe someone would prefer it. Count me as one of the converted.
January 7, 200917 yr For those of you that prefer Vista, why do you prefer it? Also, what does Vista Ultimate offer over the other versions and do you think it is worth the extra coin? After getting used to it I love the way you navigate to files through Vista. I like the graphics. The only annoyance that I get is as someone said when it asks if you really want to do something but that only happens when accessing system files or settings so it really doesn't happen that often for me.
January 7, 200917 yr What I've seen of Windows 7 I like. Vista feel with much better performance. In fact, 7 out performs XP in some benchmarks.

That's what I feel as well. I also work with several documents open at the same time, as well as internet browsers. the ability to toggle back and forth between everything is GREATLY enhanced in Vista.
January 7, 200917 yr Great minds think alike!! Sometimes anyways:D  When they don't, it's not that important anyway.

January 9, 200917 yr Seems 7 can not get here soon enough. http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/01/08/microsoft.ballmer/index.html
January 9, 200917 yr Seems 7 can not get here soon enough. http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/01/08/microsoft.ballmer/index.html I'm anxious for it to get here, because I will be buying a new desktop soon. I like vista just fine though for the most part. I have heard nothing but good things about 7 though.
January 9, 200917 yr Seems 7 can not get here soon enough. http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/01/08/microsoft.ballmer/index.html I've got a tech running the beta on an old Toshiba laptop with only 512MB of RAM and it handles the lack of memory fine, even without the proper video drivers. I still have compatiblity problems with older propriatary programs that will not work with Vista or 7 and will still have to be run on Win2K or XP. I also have older 16 bit programs (again propriatary) that will not run under NT/Win2K/XP, so I'm stuck with Windows 98 when using those. Hell, I just recently got rid of the last DOS based program we had to use to process inventory for a contractor. I bet there are people out there who don't even know what DOS was. I feel old again.
January 10, 200917 yr For those of you that prefer Vista, why do you prefer it? Also, what does Vista Ultimate offer over the other versions and do you think it is worth the extra coin? I like the why you can tag photos fairly easily. I also like the ways you can organize documents. People say they don't like Vista but it usually isn't followed up with anything specific...usually.

I remember upgrading to the 80386 16Mhz and thinking man was this machine "fast". delete *.*, dir, cd, chkdsk, copy After thinking back to how cryptic MS-DOS was it is amazing the improvement Windows (although some would suggest otherwise as Windows was not nearly as stable as DOS) was over DOS. This opened the door for the use of personal computers to nearly everyone. We would not have near the number of computer users today had this not happened and it is easy to see why MSFT has made so much money. Create a product that makes something easier to use for millions of people and the cash will flow into your bank account.
February 8, 200917 yr I know. I finally figured out what you were talking about. You are probably using Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0. I am using Adobe Premiere Pro 7.0. Elements is the consumer level video editing software by Adobe, Pro is studio/professional level video editing software. I am guessing you are using Elements as it is supported by Vista where Pro is not.
