It would be easier if you just pm'd me with what you want me to see.

I followed the Myrtle Beach tournament, and watched the entire Pickering game, and I think the EC boys had a great run in going 3-1, including at least one and maybe two quality wins. Kudos.

 

But having read this entire thread, I think EVERYONE acknowledges that the tournament was a success for EC and a quality showing for a Kentucky team, including those that EC supporters think are being negative.

 

The problem, it seems, is how the thread got started with EC faithful pounding their chests about "winning the championship" and "bringing home the trophy". If the first few posts had said simply "Way to go EC, great showing against high caliber opponents", most of the rest of this thread wouldn't have existed.

 

The first few posts about "championships" and "trophies" are misleading. THAT was the problem, not the caliber of the opponents or, however this happened, the comparison to the Lloyd tournament. It seems to me that maybe some of EC faithful are looking for a fight - the "Way to bring home the championship" thing sounds like bait to me, intended to elicit the response that it got.

 

In any event, I like watching EC and enjoy the way they play. And that is coming from a loyal Holmes alum and Ninth Region guy. I'll be cheering for EC as soon as the Ninth Region is done at the Sweet Sixteen (Love the whole small school David-Goliath thing). That's when this thing is gonna get settled. Maybe we should just look forward to seeing you guys in Lexington - since there is no chance any of us in NoKy see EC up here until then - and tone down the rhetoric a notch.

I seem to remember a few years back when Scott Co won the consolation bracket in this tournament and I do not recall the negativity, especially so early!

Give the Elliott Co. KIDS respect! As people did for the Scott Co kids a couple of years ago!

I started the thread and I don't believe I stated anything about a "championship". Yes I did mention a trophy and added a "WAY TO GO" too. I guess I should have said the "consulation" trophy but I was always taught that all accomplishments should be celebrated . . . if it's 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. I'm proud of our kids and will ALWAYS stand up for them. I'm proud of them and sure wanted them to know it. I AM one of the Elliott County Faithful (and I didn't graduate from EC) and I will remain that way whatever happens.

Wonder who sideline coach is cheering for then? We can't help it if whatever team you are cheering for can't beat the Lions but to say that the tournament lost some of it's prestige it once had because a very good basketball team went 3-1. What you need to do is ask some of those teams that the Lions played while they were in that tournament how good EC is and I'm sure that they would tell you what most people would say. That Elliott WILL be a force in any tournament they play in. Dont' be a hater and maybe someday the team you're cheering for now can be as good as the Lions are.

There is no telling what EC would have done Vs the teams they did not play in the BBC. The ONLY thing that matters is EC went 3-1 Vs very good competition and won the consolation bracket, which is a great showing!

 

Seneca won the consolation bracket at the Lloyd tourney after a first round loss to Holmes, did that make them the 7th best team in the tourney? Far from it! But games Vs other teams in a tourney that you do play no one can say what would have happened, and isn't far to the KIDS!

7. Did not show they can compete with a top 5 team in KY.

EC just won 3 of 4 games in one of the premier holiday tournaments in the country. They beat two of South Carolina's defending state champions and one of the premier teams in Canada.

 

If not for a 31% shooting and unbelievable 4-30 three point game (13.3%) vs. Cedar Hills, TX they would have beat the #1 ranked 15-0 (CLASS 5A) team in Texas. Still with the worst shooting in some time it was a 2 pt. game inside 2 minutes. Having watched this tournament for 5 days there are 15 teams that could easily be in the Top 10 in Kentucky. All the teams (with the exception of Socastee) have the athletic talent, size, speed, quickness, and jumping ability of a Scott County or Holmes. And yes, I have seen Scott County 3 times this year and Holmes twice in Lexington.

 

What does the Cedar Hill game tell me?? That even if Elliott shoots 31% from the field and 13% from trey land the game against a top opponent the game is still decided in the last two minutes. There will be no 29 point games like at Mason last year. It also tells me that if they shoot anywhere between that terrible % and their average of 50% from the field and 40% from trey land that teams in the state of KY are in real trouble. And if they shoot their % than they are in for something worse than real trouble. These kids may lose in the first round of the state again and so may any top 5 team, but they are so gritty, seasoned, and determined it will take them shooting very poorly for a top flight KY team to put them away in the last 2 minutes. You wanted a up front honest evaluation after me watching about 20 games in this tournament and there it is. These kids will not go away easily come March. And yes, they will be a factor in Rupp in March.

Free throws are very difficult to hit when the pressure is one to close the gap at the end of the game. Even the best have been know to choke.

If we talking about what ifs----what if Faulkner didnt foul-out? That would have made a big difference at the end of the game. :sssh:
