Another player I think not getting enough attention is Timmy Massey from Dayton he has been averaging about 22 a game and he still shadows behind Shawn Eastin who isnt doing as well as expected this year

It's not often that many Clay Co. players are under-rated, but I'd say Shane Brumley from the '98 Clay Co. team.

 

Another under-rated from the now 13th was South Laurel's Warren Gross. He was the one player South with "state-level" quickness, and was big in the first half of their semi-final win over PRP.

 

Until the end of his senior year when he was named a KY Senior All-Star, I would have said Cumberland's Desmond Johnson.

 

What about Russ Chadwell from the Farmer-era at Clay?

Mason's Keith Downing - outside of the Royal faithful he doesn't always get his props.

Montgomery's Brandon Rash - maybe because he doesn't do the AAU thing, but this kid will be a steal for whatever college makes him an offer.

GRC's Robert Hatton. Stenzel and Zollo take the limelight while this senior does his thing and does it well.

 

Scott Co.'s Jimmy Warren (from the state championship team) Matt Walls and Bud Mackey took the headlines in the Lex. Herald while Jimmy Warren guarded the opposition's best player and could care less if he scored or not.

Going off the thread of who was your schools best player ever I thought I'd see what everyone thought about who might be their schools most under rated player. We all had that guy who did the dirty work and hustled but didnt get as much recognization as the star. Just a few from Mason from my day I'd have to go with Litzinger, Wes Jones, and maybe even Casey Pfeffer. If it wasnt for Pfeffer hitting the 3 right before lofton hits the game tying 3 against trinty in the 3 overtime battle it would have never got that far. So who where your schools most under rated players?

 

Taking nothing away from these guys, but because of my age and your's you didn't get to see Tommy Corde, Mike Corde, or Denny Barbour play. They were really good players and at times underated and all three were better than the three you listed.

Late 60's around the time of Lyons. Mike Corde played for Jim Mitchell and I know Tommy went to Ohio U. and played there.

One of my favorites at Greenup County was Jared "Sumo" Plummer. Undersized in height to play the post (about 6'2") at the next level, but was a great compliment to an All-State center in Jimmy Tackett. If you ever received a screen from this kid you remember it for the rest of your life. I remember one night at Lewis County he was matched up on near 7 footer Billy Howell and with an array of post moves put the big center in foul trouble in the 1st quarter.

Didn't know Mike Cord very well but did know Tommy. He is a class act. I got to see him a couple years ago and sure enjoyed talking to him. Great guy.

I wouldn't call Russ Chadwell from Clay Co. underrated. With some posts about the Beach Ball Classic on here, I wish there was some video available from the '88 Beach Ball Classic dunk contest in which Chadwell came in a close runner-up to Everick Sullivan who went on to star at Louisville. For 5'11", he put on a show. Russ could "fly". I'm sure most of the people in attendance at the Beach Ball that year were shocked to say the least. I would call Kevin Jackson underrated for Clay Co. on the 87-88 team. Very quick, good jumper and rebounder.

J LIt was very good, but didn't get much publicity due to Lofton and Grutza. Wes Jones COULD have been a star, and probab;y moved on to the next level if not for the incident during State Tournament. Many in maysville point to that stopping back to back titles.

On todays squad Austin Stiitt I've noticed in his JV games he can do alot for the varsity if given the chance.

Ross Czarnik from St. Henry was very under rated. The best defender on the 2003 team that lost to Mason Co in the Sweet 16 and maybe the best defender in the state that year.
