Yea - he gets a lot of work modeling wristwatches (did you see his work on the latest Rolex campaign), men's jewelry (a highly regarded spread in this month's Gentlemen's Quarterly), and he does a ton of glove ads.

 

He was nominated for a "Phalangy" (the hand models' equivalent to a Tony or an Oscar) after the Isotonic line was introduced this fall.

 

Without a doubt, Sid "Lefty" Johnson has done our hometown proud.

 

Below, I am attaching the "photo seen round the world" - it is considered some of the finest work that Sid ever produced, and many in the business feel like it guarantees his place in the Hand Models' Hall of Fame.

Frances The hand you posted is not Lefty Johnson's hand. It is an imposter. As you said in post #79 the add people were using his right hand. The picture posted is a left hand. Whats up with this.

Sharp, if you were more familiar with the Hand Modeling industry you would know that most of the actual photos are taken using complex mirrors and everything appears as an opposite. So the hand in the photo is actually Lefty Johnson's right hand.

 

This is done to limit the amount of direct light that the model's hand is subjected to. Too much direct light can cause premature aging of the skin and a models career can be cut short. Before this process was perfected many of the more prominant hand models were forced into early retirement.

 

Many will remember Gloria "Velvet Hands" Panobscot who was a leading hand model in the 70's and early 80's. She was most famous for her work in the Palmolive commercials. "Madge" got all of the credit with her famous line "you're soaking in it" but Gloria was the true star. Well unfortuantely that was before the indirect photographing was perfected and by the time "Velvet Hands" was 27 years old she was relegated to doing the Pond's Vanishing Creme ads. Sadly. she was the one with the age spots and was not even 30 years old. She now resides in the St. Metacarpus Retirement Community in North Burbank.

I think Lefties have an unfair advantage. Maybe we should have two different leagues. One for lefties and one for righties. I see that as the only way to balance the playing field. Righty's should get the same opportunities.

Equus has done an excellent job of explaining the situation, but I would like to add that the photograph I attached had to be shrunk to fit the page. Had I been able to upload the entire 30" x 60" six color original that hangs over my fireplace mantle, you would be able to pick up the finer details in it. Without question, that is Lefty's right hand. No one - and I mean NO ONE - could ever duplicate those cuticles. I'm not sure that you could even photoshop it and improve them.

 

No doubt about it - cuticles to die for ...

 

By the way, Equus - rumor has it that Gloria Penobscot is going to be touring the country this coming summer, giving a series of lectures entitled "Age Spots - The Electromagnetic Spectrum and You".

 

She is rumored to have done some stunt double work for Linda Carter on the old "Wonder Woman" television show. If you notice, whenever the bad guys are shooting at her, they always cut away to show the bad guys shooting, then back to a close up of the bracers deflecting the bullets. You guessed it - those are Gloria's wrists ...

 

I don't know if it's true or not, but they say she still takes a nice photo from the wrist up. Word on the street is that the ad campaign below was only agreed to after Gloria had signed on to the project:

I'm hearing stories of a budding young playground superstar from down near the Laurel-Whitley line. He's a home-schooled kid of 14 years, but there is talk that his parents (dad - 5'9", mom - 5'6") want to get him in a proper school to see if he's as good as he looks in the pickup games. A fierce courtship involving South Laurel, Corbin and Whitley County is allegedly going on behind the scenes to land this would-be frosh.

My understanding is that Cornerstone Christian Academy in Lily has the upperhand in landing this kid, they just need to get 4 more to play with him and they are going to join the KHSAA. This could really hurt South Laurel and Corbin.

From what I hear through the AAU grapevine, there is some debate over when the "clock" on his eligibility starts. Apparently, some are making the argument that if he lands at either North or South Laurel, his two appearances in the Gus Macker should count - since he would have been a freshman in the home schooling calendar. I have it from an excellent source that he is already reading on the same level as a sophomore...

 

This is looking more and more like a real knotty problem...

Who ya got for '09-10?

Hey guys this brings back old memories of when I wasnt one of the only 15th region mountain "valley dwellers" on this site. But I have a question I know of a youngster who handles the pill with sick skills and is deadly from inside of 8 feet. He stands 49 inches tall and his mom is left handed. He shoots right but swings a basball bat and golf club left which I hoped would qualify him for this thread. He is now in a Shelby Valley feeder school and may dress on the frosh team this season. I will keep you guys posted for the next 12 years. :popcorn:

My son shoots left but is a righty and he plays the point @ 5' 7". Close but no cigar.
