I think that they are a top 5 team. And frankly, the top 5 in this ranking could, IMO, split many games if they played one another. I mean no disrespect to any of them, especially not Elliott. But you have to realize when you are ranking teams, strength of schedule has to apply somehow, don't you agree?

 

And I'm the same guy who declared that I thought that there was a "marked gap" between Scott Co. and the rest, and I was obviously wrong.

I agree Elliott hasn't played anyone so far this year, but they have only played 4 or 5 games so far. They have beefed up the schedule some this year and I guess that it what it will take to get some people to give them the respect that they deserve. I agree that any of the top five could split many games and it is JMO that they are the best team in the state.

Rankings could change nightly, depending upon match-ups. If you visit most preseason rankings and end of season rankings, they usually change considerably.

 

I believe the talent level in Kentucky, is very good, balanced for the top tier programs and spread across this great state. Assembling rankings is never easy, an exact science and I admire, those who undertake this endeavor.

Actually the Holmes/Bryan Station game was closer than the score indicated. Holmes was leading midway through the 4th and BS hit a few shots to go up by 6 and Holmes had to start fouling with every missed shot they took.

 

I understand, but it's hard - in my book - to rate team A higher than team B because of a "feeling" (or whatever you want to call it), despite the fact that - on the court - team B was the winner. When all is said and done, Holmes may be our state champion - but right now, I just don't see how they can be ranked higher than Bryan Station.

 

All other comparisons - scores against like opponents, scoring averages, defensive points allowed, star players, offensive efficiency stats, rebounding margins, gut feels, etc. - are nothing but fun speculation. On the court is where it counts. Maybe Holmes would win a rematch; maybe they wouldn't. The bottom line is this: They didn't beat BS in this year's first meeting between the two.

 

If Holmes beats Bryan Station later this year, perhaps we re-assess. But right now, how can anyone reasonably argue that Holmes is better than Bryan Station? Do the Defenders have to win a 2 out of 3 series to claim superiority because the pre-season expectations for them were lower than for Holmes?

 

LES is correct, though - polls are just for fun debate right now. Especially this early...many highly-regarded teams (i.e., Jeffersontown, Elliott County) have yet to play a reasonable opponent. We just don't know yet HOW GOOD they will be...we EXPECT a lot...
