BGP boys rankings

Featured Replies

I understand, but it's hard - in my book - to rate team A higher than team B because of a "feeling" (or whatever you want to call it), despite the fact that - on the court - team B was the winner. When all is said and done, Holmes may be our state champion - but right now, I just don't see how they can be ranked higher than Bryan Station.

All other comparisons - scores against like opponents, scoring averages, defensive points allowed, star players, offensive efficiency stats, rebounding margins, gut feels, etc. - are nothing but fun speculation. On the court is where it counts. Maybe Holmes would win a rematch; maybe they wouldn't. The bottom line is this: They didn't beat BS in this year's first meeting between the two.

If Holmes beats Bryan Station later this year, perhaps we re-assess. But right now, how can anyone reasonably argue that Holmes is better than Bryan Station? Do the Defenders have to win a 2 out of 3 series to claim superiority because the pre-season expectations for them were lower than for Holmes?

LES is correct, though - polls are just for fun debate right now. Especially this early...many highly-regarded teams (i.e., Jeffersontown, Elliott County) have yet to play a reasonable opponent. We just don't know yet HOW GOOD they will be...we EXPECT a lot...

So even though Holmes lost to #4 BS, they should be ranked lower than #2 but yet they beat the #1 team in Scott Co??? I'm not buyin it. Holmes and Bryan Station are the only two teams so far with top 5 wins, so if anything Bryan Station should be #1 and Holmes #2. We'll know soon enough whether or not BS should be ranked above them or not...maybe early as Tuesday night, if both teams take care of business this week end. :sssh:

Bryan Station hasn't lost. So I think he makes a valid point.

I agree with both of you. I'm just saying that no way you can rank Holmes lower than #2 with their win over Scott Co. Bryan Station deserves the #1 spot. They beat #2 Holmes, beat Tates Creek by 22, and they beat Henry Clay.

Again, I think that you can pull the top 5 out of a hat and be as close as anyone else in how to rank them.

You could be right. We'll know more as the season progresses, but at this point, Bryan Station and Holmes are the only two teams with wins over a top 5 team.

Hey guys glad to see Shelby Valley break into the top 10. And I think that they are legit this year. If they win next weekend in the Laurel tourney and then play well in Florida against Top Flite competition maybe they can move on up. Just glad to see my mountain team get a little love. To all ELLIOT FANS being in the top five with those other four teams is nothing to sneeze at you have a great team but they are not unbeatable. Enjoy this ride these kids are giving you before it ends.

I agree! I didn't say that Holmes should be ranked below #2. ER, I think you assumed I would leave Jtown ahead of Holmes. I wouldn't. Sorry if I wasn't clear. If I had a vote, my top 5 would be:

Bryan Station - by virtue of undefeated record against decent opposition and win over Holmes.

Holmes - only loss to BS, and owner of outstanding win over consensus pre-season #1

Scott County - Only KY loss to Holmes. Unbelievable talent.

Elliott County - needs a quality win to move up, probably.

Jeffersontown - Chargers also need to show something, but the schedule gets tougher in a hurry in the King of the Bluegrass. We'll see what they have.

I think we both misunderstood one another then. :thumb:

I agree with your top 5, only I'd switch EC and J'town. We have to remember J'town is playing without Cosby right now who is a legit top 3 junior in the state and ranked nationally by some scouting services. J'town has a very talented team with:

Jordan Reeves (6'9 C #36 senior in KY)

Aaron Cosby (6'3 SG #3 junior in KY)

Thomas Jackson (5'11 PG #17 junior in KY)

Richard Kennedy (5'11 PG #33 junior in KY)

Desmond Dorsey (6' SG #3 Freshman in KY)

AND they only lost Gagel from last year's region title team.

Scott County lost to Holmes, too, who lost to Bryan Station.

That's why rankings are fun to look at and argue about;), but they don't mean a thing.

Whoever the 16 teams are standing in March is all that matters.:thumb:

I agree with this on one hand , but on the other the last 16 standing will not be the best 16 in the state.

Almost all pre-season rankings had Franklin County around 15 in the state. They have not played anyone great but some decent teams that could upset many teams. They are 4-0 but drop from the preseason. Does anyone think they should be in BGP's rankings now and if they beat Mason Co. saturday where would you see them go?

I've seen Jeffersontown play, they are not the No. 1 ranked team in the state. Holmes should be. Actually, I believe GRC should be rated a bit higher than what they are, too.

Ok I'll probably get hammered for this, and yes I think they are a good team, but who have they beaten. They have a loss against Madison Central who is a bit down (for MC but never count them out), yes it was without Stensil, but someone tell me why they deserve a top 20 ranking at this point, with a loss to an unranked team?

I definitely agree. Usually young and inexperienced teams have to earn respect but everyone automatically gives it to GRC when they haven't done much at all. Yes they had an injury but that stuff happens and that should not be considered too much in high school rankings. Who you put on the floor IS your team and you have to overcome things like injuries.

The underrated team on the list might be Eastern. Maybe Speedy can help with this, I haven't seen them play. The are undefeated and their scores look strong.

The most overrated is probably Christian County. They had a losing record last season I believe. Some say it was a tough schedule, I say that is just an excuse. I know their football players are just coming out, but do they have anyone new that they didn't have last season with a losing record. They currently have two losses.

All I am saying is that there are some serious question marks with these rankings. Are these rankings based on potential or performance? Help me out Speedy.

I think they are the best team in the state, therefore should be ranked #1.

, Some things never cease to amaze me, there's no way you can put them in front of Station, Scott County, or Holmes, come on now!

Had to capitalize a letter.

At this point, all polls are largely based on potential and only a small bit on performance...most teams have only played 4 or 5 games.
