BGP boys rankings

I think we both misunderstood one another then. :thumb:

I agree with your top 5, only I'd switch EC and J'town. We have to remember J'town is playing without Cosby right now who is a legit top 3 junior in the state and ranked nationally by some scouting services. J'town has a very talented team with:

Jordan Reeves (6'9 C #36 senior in KY)

Aaron Cosby (6'3 SG #3 junior in KY)

Thomas Jackson (5'11 PG #17 junior in KY)

Richard Kennedy (5'11 PG #33 junior in KY)

Desmond Dorsey (6' SG #3 Freshman in KY)

AND they only lost Gagel from last year's region title team.

That's very defensible right now...I can't really quibble. Jtown gets to show us what they truly are made of when the KOB starts...

Should've known this was coming, but no way you can put J'town in front of Holmes when J'town hasn't played anyone and Holmes just knocked off the #1 team in the state. Also Ballard is way too high at #5. They got thumped by SC by 20 and you can't tell me there's a 20 point difference between #4 and #5. I'd go with this:

1. Bryan Station

2. Holmes

3. Scott Co

4. J'town

5. Elliot Co

6-10 are very debatable.

I agree with this on one hand , but on the other the last 16 standing will not be the best 16 in the state.

That's why rankings or ratings mean NODDA!

Elliott Co. at # 5 is a joke and anyone that agrees with these ranking obviously hasn't seen Elliott Co. play. I guess their not going to get any respect until they win the state tournament.

Just for the record and without disclosing private information: Racer4life like me is not from Elliott, but quite a distance away. I reside in the 12th region and yes I have seen Elliott and most of the top teams in the state. He has seen a lot of Elliott games and comes to many games despite being a fan of his own team. After playing basketball for 8 years including a final HS game with 29 (when we didn't have 3 pointers) and watching HS B-Ball for over 40 years, 12 straight years of never missing a state tournament game, and as a complete outsider 125 miles from Elliott County, here is the bottom line.

ELLIOTT COUNTY BELONGS IN ANY DISCUSSION AS A TOP STATE TEAM AND IS A THREAT (WHICH IS THE WORD THAT SCARES THE NAYSAYERS) TO WIN THE WHOLE SHOOTING MATCH IN MARCH. JUST AS MUCH A THREAT AS SCOTT COUNTY, HOLMES, J-TOWN, MANUAL, BRYAN STATION, SHELBY VALLEY, AND SEVERAL OTHER POSSIBLE TEAMS. But, since we really won't know until March we will just have all this doubt & continued verbage until then that time comes.

I don't think anyone has said EC wasn't a top team in the state? I've seen them in the top 5 in practically everyone's rankings. Some just don't believe they're a top 3 team because they have no signature wins and haven't played anyone yet.

Got it and agree with you somewhat. Your definition of a signature win though seems very limited to include only the Top 3 in KY. But, I believe the signature wins are coming in the next 2 weeks and then after that later on a weekend in Richmond. I understand perfectly where you are coming from. Top 3 being Scott County, Holmes, and Bryan Station I assume. If you are judging or using those three as your definition of a signature win (or even J-Town) then we will have to wait until Rupp before we have any answers or a possible signature win and maybe even Saturday depending on the draw. Since Greenup Co. dropped Elliott is trying to replace with a Top 10 or Top 20 team is my understanding. I hope they can schedule a Manual or Franklin County like I've heard they are trying to do.

Getting a win over a top 20 team is what a lot of people consider a signature win. Anyone who only considers a win over a top 5 team as a good win, obviously doesn't know basketball very well.

As far as my top 3:

1. Bryan Station

2. Holmes

3. Scott Co

Holmes will have a chance this week end to redeem themselves though. Beat Knox Central, Ballard, and Tates Creek, and they'll get a chance to avenge their earlier loss to Bryan Station.

Hey guys glad to see Shelby Valley break into the top 10. And I think that they are legit this year. If they win next weekend in the Laurel tourney and then play well in Florida against Top Flite competition maybe they can move on up. Just glad to see my mountain team get a little love. To all ELLIOT FANS being in the top five with those other four teams is nothing to sneeze at you have a great team but they are not unbeatable. Enjoy this ride these kids are giving you before it ends.

I can see a Shelby Valley vs. Elliott Game as a possible final in the All A Tourney in Richmond on Sunday Feb. 1st. Would be a great game of maybe two of the top 6 or 7 teams in the state. Shelby Valley has those impressive wins over Walton GA by 21 and Henry Clay by 35 (Bryan Station only beat HC by 5 pts.) I hope they draw in different brackets. The state brackets for the All A should be out anytime now as we are only about 39 days from the start. Right now a nice final four on Saturday would include Shelby Valley, Elliott County, Hazard, and Bardstown.

I think Shelby Valley is VERY underrated and IMO is the beat "A" school in the state. They have a nice dynamic duo in Hatfield and Justice and it doesn't hurt having the 6'9 Adams kid. Logan Bryant gets kind of overshadowed by those 3 but he is a very good player as well.

SV looks scary good right now. I probably won't see them until the All A in Richmond, but can't wait to see them. The way they are playing they may come to Richmond undefeated or with only one or two losses by a close margin. Only surprise was Pikeville leading them by 4 at halftime, but then they win on in the second half to win it by a big margin.

Lions Mania, my wife was very good friends with the Pikeville coaches wife in college. I agree the Shelby Valley team is very legit. They remind me a lot of Elliott Co., they played in the state as sophs. and basically have everybody back from that team. Could very well see a S.V. vs. E.C. in state All A final, providing S.V. gets by Pikeville.

That would be interesting indeed.

Reading these posts made me laugh when Elliot County always seem to be the Rodney Dangerfield of highschool basketball!
