My question when games turn out like this is - what is the "magic number"? A 40-point win? 50? What is worse - getting beat 132-67, or 70-15? One is a 65-point win; the other is only 55.

 

Sounds like by all accounts that it took two to tango in this game; and that Boyd's game plan was just what the doctor ordered for Elliott.

 

Are there any 16th Region historians out there that can tell us whether or not Elliott was ever on the other end of these type games back in the day?

 

Thank you mcpapa, yes Elliott has been on the wrong end. Regretably more than I know, as an example, a state representative coached Elliott for one year and was beat very badly on several occasions.

 

These things go in cycles, for the larger schools not so often. It amazes me some of the comments from obviously uninformed fans of whatever school.

Just so I understand, you're saying a team that is good, shouldn't leave their players in, if playing a team that is not equal and are behind?

 

Anytime you have a score like this, it's a direct result of both teams. The ability of one team to score and the inability, of the other team to stop them.

Just so everyone is clear, I'm no Elliott County apologist. They nearly knocked out the team I support in the first round of the Sweet 16 last year; and they sure as heck got a Rupp Arena crowd that is traditionally very pro-Mason County on their side for a couple of hours.

 

I just think they're kind of a "feel-good story" this year; small-town mountain school has a group of guys that have played together for years and are having great success. They play a style of basketball that is suited to their talents.

 

Would they fare as well in a different region? Who cares?

I'm not downplaying anything and not sure, what you want Elliott County to do. It's been said, others played. Do you want them to only play the last 5 guys on the roster, in every game they play.

 

They played a team, who pushed the ball up the floor like them and Elliott County was better, in their offensive end than Boyd County. With that said, they also couldn't stop Elliott County defensively, regardless of who was in there. In time, Boyd County will get better but on this night, they were over-matched by the entire team.

 

Should be simple, to understand.

I just can't see the same picture you're seeing. If this game were played the way it should have been, the score would have been about 160-50, with the freshman and younger players playing the 4th quarter. If you watch North Carolina play, you'll notice that Roy Williams has his starters in late in the game in blowouts. There is a reason for that and that is preparation for greater things in the future.

Once again, we can't seem to play well together.
