Early Candidates for Mr. Basketball

Featured Replies

I'll ask you the same question I asked some others in another thread, have you seen Elliott play? If so, when?

Last year against Covcath in the 5/3.

Last year against Mason Co at Mason Co.

Last year against Mason Co at Rupp Arena.

I also saw Ferg and the Faulkner twins over the summer on the AAU circuit with the DS All Stars.

I'd say that's enough to form a solid evaluation on them.

If you did you would know that Ferg averaged 19.6ppg 5bds, 2asst 2steals. for DS who were about 33-10 while he was with them. He wiil NOT win Mr basketball but he has proven year in and year out he can play with anyone at any level. I saw one of the top aau teams in nation put a 6'5" chaser on Ferg and he scored 30 hitting 6 threes over him.

He has averaged around 20ppg with every aau team he has been with in last 6 years.

He also scored 27, and 19 against Miller and Company. He gets the numbers regardless of what region or state he is playing in. Will he win Mr B-Ball, No that is Hoods! Is he on the same level with Jenkins and the rest of them, Yes. I like Eta Rho have watched all these guys play for the last 6years and Ferg has played and traveled with several of them and competed against them almost always getting his 20-24pts 5-6 boards, couple asst and steals!! To answer someone elses question...He has some offers but hes holding off to see what happens with a couple others he's really interested in.

I know this is a long shot but Jamel Riley has been lights out for Holmes. Holmes is right now #2 in the state. I know he has a very slim chance to win it but his name should be thrown out there IMO.

I never said he wasn't a good player. He is very talented and as you said, proves it over the summer as well. I was just stating that one of the reasons for this was because EC plays so well as a TEAM.

But playing well as a TEAM, doesn't win the INDIVIDUAL award for Ferg. That title will go to either Hood, Jenkins, or Sanford. All three of those will play at a bigger program than him. Not because he isn't good enough, but because they have the talent and size, which is a big factor.

Riley at the point with Jenkins, Hood, and Sanford on the wings and Phares running the baseline gives Kentucky hope against one of the better Indiana recruiting classes in this year's Kentucky-Indiana Allstar games.

I agree. Tough not to include Riley in the discussion of best PG's and overall players in this years' senior class.

Eric Mosely is making quite a name for himself. Not saying he will make a run at the honor, but he deserves to mentioned after what he has done to this point.

Hood

Sanford

Ferguson

Jenkins (could move up but missing a few games has him playing catch-up right now)

Mosley has bounced around to different high schools but now is back playing in KY and probably has the most talent in the state. He doesn't have the size but he can score from anywhere on the floor and is easily the quickest player in the state. If he can get his head screwed on right, I could easily see him playing division 1 basketball somewhere. Whether he goes JUKO and transfers or picks up some offers this year, if he stays out of trouble he should play division 1 ball somewhere.

Excellent point. When is the last time a team from the 10th made a serious run at Rupp???:D:D:D:D

Oh, I dont know everybody when did a team from the 10th make a run at rupp? Oh wait didn't the Mason County Royals from the tough and tenacious 10th Region win the KHSAA State Tournament last year at Rupp Arena or was I dreaming?:laugh::laugh:

First of all, Stenzel is better than Middleton. Rash's numbers aren't great right now, but he might be better than Middleton. Kyle Campbell, even though he is at little bitty Nicholas County, individually might be better than Middleton. Lets not forget about Zollo either.

Now as far as saying the 10th region is mediocre. I'll stand by that comment. Sure, we produced some state championships over the past decade but the region as a whole is very mediocre. Let's take out the top two teams, Mason and Clark. Then it is very mediocre. If you take the top two teams out of the 11th, 5th, 6th, and probably the 9th, then you still have plenty of 3rd rank through 6th ranked teams in those regions that would mop up the majority of the 10th region. Name one school this year in the tenth region besides Clark, Montgomery or Mason that could even make it to the 11th region tournament? Last I saw, Bourbon County was ranked 6th in the 10th region and just took a 26 point loss to Sayre(11th region powerhouse). Thats like saying that the Big 10 is as good as the SEC in football. Sure Ohio State has been to the finals a couple of times, but what Big 10 school would go 500 in the SEC? Just my opinion.

IMO Campbell should not be mentioned here. I know some people may think different but I saw him play against Henry Clay last year in a 97-33 loss at home and for him to be considered here is not respectful to other players in the 10th region. Also is in no way shape or form the caliber of Middleton.

If you say that they might be than more than likely they're not. Well I'll just make this simple for everybody. Russ Middleton is the second best player in the region. And you could argue he is the best. He was a vital piece of Mason County's run last year. Miller getting his 30 didnt kill you. It was Middleton getting his 20 or so on top of it. Clark County thought so highly of him that they put their best defender and player on him in the region finals in 2007 and it was truly the difference in the game. I say he's second because I think that Stenzel might be a little more consistent with his shot. And because he plays for GRC!! And Zollo right now shouldnt be in the discussion of best in the region.

Ferguson is as good as anyone in that state and the BEST shooter and scorer in the state, IMO. His numbers alone make him a legit canidate.

I agree Eric Mosley will make himself known.

Do we really want to debate who the top shooter in the state is?

Jon Ferguson, IMO.:thumb:
