I've always thought of "Global Warming" as a bit of a joke, however I think it was a good tool. It woke people up, to the realization of how much WE as in all of man kind, especially the US, though China was trying their darndest to catch up; were polluting the air that we breathe.

 

I think of Gloabal Warming about the same way I do Y2K, or any of those other, world ending theories. However I do think it may have helped the world clean up it's act a bit, and ESPECIALLY help us look for alternative power resources. HOWEVER, I don't think Mr. Gore deserves any of the credit for any of the above, other than inducing panic that was not necessary.

The global warming crisis is all about greed and political power. The reason for urgency is that eventually the hoax will collapse under the weight of scientific evidence. Global warming alarmists most strike while the iron is hot. They know that the general public will likely lose interest in the middle of a few consecutive cool years. Al Gore is the P. T. Barnum of his time.

It snowed in Houston a few days ago - Houston's earliest snowfall since 1944. It was also only Houston's second snowfall in the past 12 years.

Where would Albert Gore, the robotic cardboard cutout, be without global warming? He would have to embrace the "Earth is flat" cause. And, just think about all those NBC and MSNBC specials that would have to be replaced with mindless reruns.

We were cleaning up the environment long before anyone starting talking about global warming. In fact we were cleaning up things before they talked about global cooling which procecced global warming.

So, I guess global warming saved us from global cooling, not.

Please define "we". Things, per capita of companies, are better than they were, but there's still a lot that can be done and a lot of pollution going on. I'm not a proponant of 'stop global warming!', but that doesn't mean that the environment still is being mistreated by mankind as a whole.

 

So often I've heard people when they drive out to the country tell me how much they love to be able to see the stars at night. I only wonder how clear it was 300 years ago.

The air qualilty is better today than the 1950's. One example is Pittsburg. The smog was so bad that in the winter it was dark by 1 or 2 in the afternoon. Our waterways are cleaner, an example is Lake Erie that caught fire, somewhere around the early 1970's. It is much better today than 40-50 years ago.

The reason you cannot see the stars at night in the city is because of all the lights.

Air pollution may contribute to the masking of stars in cities by scattering light more evenly across the sky but the main reason that you cannot see as many stars in cities as in the country is light pollution.

 

When I lived in Paintsville, a town of 4.000, which has virtually no sources of air pollution beyond a few fireplaces, I used to drive several miles to set up my telescope. Unless you live in North Korea, light pollution is an astronomer's worst problem for deep space viewing.

That is true. However, in Kentucky, November 2008 was on average 8% colder than November 2007.
