Nothing personal I just don't think our Mountains are very mountainous. Sorry if you like them.

lol, I like them but not enough to get mad. I'm just saying, everyone in the state calls them mountains along with all BGPers so I wasn't really sure what you're point was..

I felt like expressing my views on how unmountainous our mountains are. I'm starting a petition soon.:D

Go down around Harlan and Bell Co. Those are mountains. Colorados are bigger that is true. But go down to Black Mountain and start hiking. I think you will call it a mountain by the time you get to the top. :D

Mountains I laugh every time I think of Mountains in KY. I just think of our mountains as over sized hills. Now Colorado, they've got some Mountains.

Where I'm from the things on the other side of the hollers aren't mountains or hills, they are knobs.

SEKY got as much as 6" which followed about 30 minutes of sleet. I drove to Winchester this morning in a company car and didn't see a flake past Berea. Got to McKee and there was at least 6" on my car since last night.

I know they're bigger, but still. 4,000 ft just isn't that big to me compared to what I actually feel are mountains.

Start a thread on it. Heck, the most popular thread on BGP in the past few months (besides Rocket's new love) was about Pine Trees.

You're getting too hung up on terminology. Technically you are correct, with the exception of a few southeastern Kentucky counties, there aren't any "mountains" in Kentucky. But most Kentuckians speak of the eastern part of the state as the mountain counties. It's just something that has been used in the state for years, and will continue. The differences between the definition of mountians and hills is vague anyway. From Wikpedia:

Terminology

The distinction between a hill and a mountain is unclear and largely subjective, but a hill is generally somewhat lower and less steep than a mountain. In the United Kingdom geographers historically regarded mountains as hills greater than 1,000 feet (300 m) above sea level, which formed the basis of the plot of the 1995 film The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain. In contrast, hillwalkers have tended to regard mountains as peaks 2,000 feet (610 m) above sea level. The Oxford English Dictionary also suggests a limit of 2,000 feet (610 m). This has led to Cavanal Hill in Poteau, Oklahoma, receive billing as the "World's Tallest Hill" due to its height of 1,999 feet (609 m). Mountains in Scotland are frequently referred to as "hills" no matter what their height, as reflected in names such as the Cuillin Hills and the Torridon Hills. In Wales, the distinction is more a term of land use and appearance and has nothing to do with height.

BTW, we had 5 inches of snow in Booneville (Owsley County), and that's the reason for no school today.

And it could get worse next week. WLEX-TV says late Monday through Wednesday could be a serious situation with a possible ice storm. That I don't want to see!! The last one in Jan 1998 left my county without electricity for over a week.

Had about 6 inches in Wolfe County, and it was a very wet snow. Trees down everywhere, including 4 over the road near my home.

Checked the Weather Channel's forecast for our area for the early part of next week. They are forecasting highs in the 60's on Monday and Wednesday, sandwiched by a high of 48 on Tuesday. Low's are forecasted from the mid 30s to mid 40's for the same time. I sure hope they turn out to be right and WLEX misses it. The ice storm on '98 wasnt a whole lot of fun, have no desire to see another one!

I agree I don't want to see another Ice Strom. Some people in Booneville have been without power for a couple of days now.
