December 12, 200817 yr I'm in NKY, so I'm confused as to why there are so many school closings in the southern parts of the state? Is there snow/ice? We've got snow here in the North Eastern part of the state.
December 12, 200817 yr How much? Not a ton but it's steady right now. The schools close easily around here. We have miles and miles of very narrow back roads. My little brother has actually already missed 3 or 4 days of school this year.
December 12, 200817 yr Author I do NOT NOT NOT want it to snow. Or Ice. Or get colder. I want it to snow a foot, if it's going to be below freezing. However if it's not, then I'm thinking we need to call this winter to an early closing(really early considering it hasn't even begun yet), and just head straight for spring weather again. Yup no snow= bypassing winter straight for Spring.
December 12, 200817 yr Here in Elliott, we've got about an inch of snow (and still snowing). It was REALLY bad coming home from the ballgame tonight. They've already called off school for tomorrow both here and in Carter, Lawrence. But I talked to a friend of mine who lives outside of Morehead, and they didn't have anything!! It's CRAZY!!!!
December 12, 200817 yr It is not just the snow and ice, but a rural county has their population base more spread out and there are so many backroads that the road workers just can't work in when it hits. Less money to fund snow removal plus tons of rural very winding overcast roads all over the counties.
December 12, 200817 yr I'm in NKY, so I'm confused as to why there are so many school closings in the southern parts of the state? Is there snow/ice? Snow/Ice here. Started around 8ish. We have Hollers around here (that's right, no "Hollows") and when you have a holler wedged between 2 mountains, it's hard for the sun to melt that ice away, therefore no school. :thumb:

Yea believe me I know all about rural areas, Pendelton county is 10 minutes from my house and they've had years where they cancelled school 8-10 times more than we did. Not their fault, the resources just aren't there for them. As a kid, I was jealous.

I just think of our mountains as over sized hills. Now Colorado, they've got some Mountains.
December 12, 200817 yr We have ice and snow out about a mile out of town to the west. Bad. Still snowing.

Yup no snow= bypassing winter straight for Spring. I'm perfectly fine with this. Spring Summer all year.
December 12, 200817 yr Author Okay. Nothing personal I just don't think our Mountains are very mountainous. Sorry if you like them.
