Congratulations to Deuce Finch on completely the "Triple Crown". Earlier this week he was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for Kentucky. Yesterday, he was named as the winner of the Paul Hornung Award for the best player in Kentucky. Tonight at 6:00 P.M., Deuce topped it off with his selection as Mr. Football for Kentucky by the Associated Press.

 

These awards could not have gone to a finer young man, who for four years has exemplified all the good athletic, academic, and social characteristics instilled at St. X. We were blessed to have the opportunity to watch him develop and perform over these last four years, and needless to say, this young man will be sorely missed.

 

Wherever your collegiate and life journey leads you, Deuce, we know success will follow, and we will always be there to cheer you on. :thumb:

As the son of a teacher, he embraces the academic side and has excelled in it at St X. Many top athletes have dedicated their entire college choice based on football while Deuce has explored Stanford and Boston College and other top schools based on the academic offerings. 2 Things- Deuce lives closer to St X than 75% of the entire St X student population and it is a local call to his house. It is sickening that the amount of press he has gotten in the public private debate as the poster child. He went to an Louisville archdiocese parish, played football in the CSAA, represented New Albany in the Babe Ruth World Series, comes from a strong two-parent family background, achieves academically and is a good teammate and fine young man. Thank you Deuce for your contribution to Kentucky High School Football.

Cheap shot or not, it is kind of odd for an Indiana resident to receive a Mr. Kentucky Football award. And for Timmy Phillips not to receive the honors a 3 year starter for a team who may win state the fourth year in a row, is a travesty. Any how, Congrats to Deuce....

Oh come on, stop being so sensitive. Is anyone in here seriously going to tell me they don't think it's funny that Mr. Football in Kentucky doesn't come from Kentucky? If you said, "No. It's not even a little funny," then I say to you, "Shenanigans." It has nothing to do with a "cheap shot" or whatever you want to call it.

 

He went to a Catholic grade school, he chose to go to the second-best Catholic high school in the area. There is nothing wrong with that. Besides... if you had the opportunity to get out of Indiana and escape to the Promised Land of the Bluegrass State, wouldn't you? They say the faith of a convert is usually deeper than that of one who never doubted. I, for one, am glad to have him in Kentucky. And we could not have asked for a more exemplary representative for football in this state.
