Why cut back the number of kids getting to make the playoffs?

-Basketball, baseball, soccer, softball, volleyball etc... include everyone.

Why in the world would you not want it settled on the field?

-You think the BCS is a mess wait until you see the mess cutting back to 1 or 2 teams per district would make.

The #3 and #4 seeds have no place in the playoffs.

-Tell that to Simon Kenton, #4 seed and in the STATE FINALS

It hurts basketball?

-Only 24 schools were still playing football into December.

-How many basketball teams are there 150-200?

-How many of those football kids are the key basketball players?

-With every team making the basketball district tourney anyway, an early loss doesn't hurt your chances to advance.

-Doesn't this just give the non-football players more basketball playing time, before the footballers show up?

What if football players were "Encouraged" to play AAU football after the regular season was over, as they are to play AAU or summer league Basketball

-Many players are forced to make the decision to play AAU Ball or begin summer football practice.

I love all High School Sports, I can't understand how anyone that says they are a fan of the kids would want to eliminate the number of teams making the playoffs in any sport. We are lucky enough that All of our State Championships are played out and settled on the field, court or diamond.

Excellent post. You really get at the heart of it.

Every sport is going to always overlap with Basketball. It is played 365 days a year ( except dead period). Basketball has a winter season and a summer season of 50 or more games. What a joke! They play so many games they even overlap themselves!

Might have already been said, but nice post!

Maybe shorten basketball to a 20 game regular season. Also limit the # of summer games for basketball. Basketball drags  on much longer than football.

Excellent post!:thumb::thumb:

Pitting one sport against the other is a bad idea, and that's what this has turned into.

Basketball always ended the third week in March. Football ended in late November. That's the best option. I don't think it's a good idea for football to push the sport into the middle of winter. It's just not a real smart marketing tool for the continued growth of the game.

I don't have anything against football. And, I don't need to study anything.

They sure find time to tape the kids up for 6 p.m. football games on a FRIDAY for the Cumberland Valley Bowl and I know there are a lot of other Bowls that start around 6:00 or 6:30. in AUGUST. Why start those games at that time?

So why not in September, October and November?

How in the world does middle school teams find time to tape their kids for their games that start as early as 5 p.m., 6 p.m. or even 6:30 p.m.

Yep, that's what I thought.

First let me say that a lot of basketball and football district are not the same. Travel can be a major concern and to start at 6 pm would not allow some tems to make it to their game on time. Tape or no tape it takes longer to get ready than just putting on shorts and a jersey.

Second, football is losing the bye week next year so it will be pushed up a week next year.

3rd I too love basketball and like watching them play but not that many teams ate hurt by getting the small population from football in early December. Overall the KHSAA is going to do what is best for high school athletes not a few but the whole and you will not see a change anytime soon, sorrry :sssh:
