JV hoopls game has to start at 6 because of the following varsity game. Baseball and softball games have to start that early at most fields because of the lack of lights. Same with tennis and golf. So those start times have little flexibility. And as a result, a lot of working men don't get to see their son's and daughter's events, or get their late.

There no reason to start football games any earlier in the day than they do now that I know of, other than personal wishes, yet there are good reasons to not start them earlier.

There is no good reason on why not to start football games earlier.

Football games should start at 6:30 ... there isn't any reason not to.

Agree, I've never understood that. At least start them by 7:00.

Les, have you talked to coach Mitchell about his 8 p.m. starts.

Ever checked the heat index at that time in late August/early Sept? Ever suited up for a football game, with the various types/sizes of pads involved? Ever have to tape ankles/cleats for a small football team? Do you know how long that takes?

I guess, too, we will not want to start basketball games at 7:30 on Friday nights either. Make JV/9th grade play on separate days. That's what happens with football.

You and I disagreed a lot on the politics forum, but we are on the same page here! :thumb:

That's true, but what I like when we do disagree is that we can do so like civilized adults.

But you're right...we agree entirely on this issue!!!

Funny you should ask that. I have a million times.

I've been to plenty basketball gyms that are HOT, HOT, HOT during mid february or March ...try district and region tournaments in a small gym.

If it's too hot to play in August or September games, then push them out to 7:30 starts, but there isn't any reason for October games to be that late.

Maybe you would want to start taping the team up a bit early.

A high school basketball game doesn't last up until 10:30 p.m. at night like a high school football games does.

After the first few weeks, this is not a bad idea. But early on, it is normally too hot for a 630pm start.

Study up on the sport medicine differential between a hot gym in Feb/March and a hot football field in Aug/Sept and then get back with me. Also, you can't tape up the kids during school time. ;)

A game lasting until 10:30 on a weekend night is a bad thing?

It seems like to me that you are just looking for excuses because you have something against football. I could be wrong, but that is just how it seems. Seems that way for several posters.

I don't have anything against football. And, I don't need to study anything.

They sure find time to tape the kids up for 6 p.m. football games on a FRIDAY for the Cumberland Valley Bowl and I know there are a lot of other Bowls that start around 6:00 or 6:30. in AUGUST. Why start those games at that time?

So why not in September, October and November?

How in the world does middle school teams find time to tape their kids for their games that start as early as 5 p.m., 6 p.m. or even 6:30 p.m.

Yep, that's what I thought.

The more I think about it, you're taking this thing like it's a personal thing about football, which is funny, it's high school sports. LOL. I'm talking about using some common sense.

I have been a football AND basketball fan for a long, long time. I support both sports. I don't know where you get the "personal thing" comment.

If you end football on Dec 1st, then you should end basketball March 1st.

Nah, baseball games don't start on March 1st.
