Maybe at a few schools, but Basketball pays for a lot more schools programs than football. I'm sure those big football schools probably could fund programs on one game a week. Basketball can play 3 or 4 a week and make a lot more money than football programs do. Also it doesn't cost near as much to run a basketball program. The cost alone to run a football team takes a lot of the money generated at the gates, unless you have a good fundraising program or boosters club.

 

This is not true at my (small) school. Our gate totals for football season exceed the gate totals for girls and boys basketball combined.

Why 2-8 and 0-10 teams are playing playoff games is beyond me? Eliminate the Bye week as well. Earn the right to get in the playoffs and end it by Dec 1st.

 

Why not? Winless teams make the first round of basketball playoffs every year.

How about this....how about we only play 9 football games and cut out the teams that make the playoffs with 4 wins or less? It's a joke. Some districts have every team making the playoffs. And, Kentucky has always been a basketball state, so the argument that we play more basketball won't hold water. As far as Simon Kenton goes, it's the exception rather that the rule. It's going to end up like the NBA where you play until June.

Differnce is basketball can play multiple games on consecutive nights and football can only play once a week. Compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges.

Everyones bye week is the last week of the regular season. Then 1st round district games (1 vs. 4 and 2 vs. 3) are played on Tuesday nights with district championships on Friday Night. Football is the only sport I can think of that allows one week between games. Soccer doesn't and in some games I have seen soccer has become football without pads (I am not a fan of soccer, just making a point).

I agree that the season should end on Thanksgiving weekend. Take out the bye week and too many teams in the playoffs. Cut it down by one week of playoffs (4 playoff games win the whole class title vs. the 5 weeks now).

Must be like 80% of the teams in the playoffs now.

Every sport is going to always overlap with Basketball. It is played 365 days a year ( except dead period). Basketball has a winter season and a summer season of 50 or more games. What a joke! They play so many games they even overlap themselves!

Leave the bye week alone in football. It is the only weekend from the end of dead period until the end of football that families can plan anything, out-of-town travel, or just kids hanging out on a Friday night!

The same working man tries to go see his son play a jayvee basketball game at 6 p.m. The same working man also tries to get to his son's or daughter's baseball and softball games that usually start around 5:30 p.m.

The same working man still tries to see his son/daughter play a tennis match that begins at 4 or 4:30 and the same goes for golf.
