I don't think the UC/VT game will be very good. UC should win that game very easily.

 

VT has been playing pretty decent football lately. This should be a competitive game.

I think Texas is getting hosed in the BCS.

Nothing intriguing outside of Florida/Oklahoma and UC/VT. Alabama/Utah = blowout. Texas/Ohio = blowout. USC/Penn St. = blowout.

I can understand that arguement, but IMO Oklahoma and Florida are the best 2 teams....I think a Alabama/Texas game would have made for much better football though.

I know there are league alliances with the bowls. But if you could have had your pick, what teams would you have matched up?

 

I would have liked to see:

Texas-USC

Bama-Penn State

OSu-Cincy

Utah-V TEch

BCS rules don't allow more than 2 teams from a conference to make it. Tech would've been #3 from the Big 12.

BTW, to take a look at why the teams ended up where they did:

 

Each conference (sans Big East) has an anchor bowl. Big Ten & Pac-10 have Rose. SEC has Sugar. Big 12 has Fiesta. If a bowl loses an anchor to the championship, they get first dibs on a team to replace them, and this is prioritized by the BCS ranking. So since the Fiesta lost OU and OU was #1, they had first pick of the other teams to replace. The Sugar had pick #2. After that it went in an order that changes from year to year, which was this year Fiesta, Sugar, Orange. So it's pretty easy to see that:

 

-Fiesta obviously would choose Texas, a team from their natural conference.

-Sugar obviously would choose Alabama, a team from their natural conference.

-Fiesta would then choose the most desirable at-large team in terms of prestige, fanbase, etc., which was OSU.

-Sugar then pretty much had a choice between Utah and Cincinnati and decided to go with Utah.

 

So really the only opponents you might have seen switch up a little is 'Bama facing Cincy instead of Utah. The Fiesta picking OSU is a no-brainer. Utah going after that is really as well. Cincy is great this year, but it's not shocking that the bowls decided they weren't the glamorous pick. Cincy was always going to the Orange.

 

So really, there wasn't that much wiggle room with these matchups when you think about it. For those that aren't happy with the matchups, what realistic changes do you see? Would Texas/Utah and 'Bama/OSU have been all that more appealing? 'Bama/Cincy & VT/Utah?

 

And for newarkcatholicfan, could 'Bama have been matched up with any of the teams that you think would show them as overrated? They would never have been matched against Texas, which really couldn't expose them as overrated since they're rated above them, and therefore Texas would be theoretically favored. USC? Penn State? They were always going to the Rose Bowl against each other. OSU? HA!

I like the games so far. OSU and Texas will be a good game, as well as USC/Penn State..

I can understand BCS conference champions getting in, but an undefeated Boise team deserves it more than a 2-loss OSU team.
