Parenting Harder as they get older or not

Featured Replies

I have to agree the teenage years are the worst. The best thing about it is they turn 20 and for the most part a brain magically reappears.

Please continue to remind me of that!! I sometimes think her brain is just too far gone to ever be found!! :p

These responses are just want I want to hear.:irked:

I have 5 kids total: a 7 yr old, 3-5yr olds, and a 4 yr old. Now I see what I have to look forward to.:scared:

We have a 15 yr old son, and soon to be 12 yr old daughter (this Friday). I don't know if it's gotten harder or if it's just that the problems/situations have merely evolved over the years. To our 15 yr old, we have been relegated to the role of financial assistance providers.

Wow! A 12 year old daughter! :scared: WARNING! WARNING! :scared: You have approximately 365 days before you IQ drops 100 points, all your clothes are ugly, every word out of your mouth is incredibly embarrassing, and your very presence in a room causes the temperature to drop ten degrees!

And get used to THIS :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

God be with you!

Oh crap my 12 year old boy does this!:lol:

:thumb: No way would our daughter have been permitted to attend that sleepover.

I would never allow my son or daughter to attend that sleepover as well. But I can admit that when I was that age, I would have argued for days over my parents saying no ( and they would have said no). It just goes to show that the lessons that parents teach usually payoff in the long run when people like me can say, my parents were right.:D

Hey . . . she's going to my alma mater!!!!!

GO BIG RED!!!!!!

You forgot to mention all the SENIOR STUFF . . . pictures, invitations, cap/gown, Tshirts, hoodies . . . etc!!! It's just NEVER ENDING!!!!!

Senior stuff - just paid all the cap and gown stuff, pictures are partially done, dreading the prom - I know the boys don't get THE DRESS but it usually runs 400 to 500 dollars for a boy. There's the SPECIAL FLOWERS that matches perfectly THE DRESS, tickets to prom, food, transportation, tuxedo, etc.

I have sent a boy and a girl to the prom. I expected it to be expensive for the girl, but was surprised at how expensive it was for him as well. They were about equal.

I isn't that way around here because alot of the kids don't go out to eat because everything's so far away. If they do, they'd have to meet about 3pm for pics, then to drive 45 minutes, then end and return!! It's either than or try to go out to eat afterwards therefore only attending the dance for a very short time.

I guess I should cut back on things because last year sending my daughter to prom cost me about $1000 with the dress, shoes, jewelry, makeup, getting hair and nails done, then since she was dating a boy that did not attend the school, she paid for the tickets.

I miss the little kids who used to live in my house and I am trying to figure out who these men are than my wife let move in!:D

My kids are 18, 15, 14 and 11. Three boys and then a little girl. I liked it much better when there were 11 to 4.

I love my kids and the memories we are making together but it was much, much easier when they were younger.

10 years ago, the biggest problem was that he was embarrased to take a toilet paper roll to school for a craft project. Now, I am working on a 43 over speeding ticket. It is a felony under Illinois law and can involve jail time. Him: "Dad it is on I-80 where the speed limit drops to 45." Me: "88 MPH is not legal anywhere in the state........[the rest can't be posted]"

I agree with you. I would have wanted to go to the sleep over for all the same reasons that my parents wouldn't want me to go.

My kids have never gone to a sleep over. Nothing good or positive can come out of that. I have always allowed them to go to the party but when it is time to go to sleep, I pick them up.

I used to have a "written invitation" rule for parties but I have scaled that back to having to talk to the parents and my wife or I meet them the day of the party to see what kind of people they are. I trust my kids, but that only goes so far.

I have explained to my kids that my job is to get them safely to adulthood.

Your kids have never gone to ANY sleepover?

Yep, in my day we laid out in the backyard on the day of the prom to get a little tan, then put our hair up in electric curlers. That was the extent of our spa day! Can't imagine my mother sending me to get my hair and nails done. I did for my daughter though!

Our kids go to a nice dinner before hand, an after prom and then out to breakfast after that.......usually paid for by the boy. It is also big to get a limo, also paid for by the boys. I would honestly say can easily come to $1000.00 for a boy as well.

Looking forward to it especially after reading your words of encouragement. Thanks.:D:irked::cry::cry::cry:
