December 6, 200817 yr Okay, seems as if last week I was about the only poster who was actually taking up for Liggins after all the ruckus out in Vegas. While some was calling for him to be kicked off the team, I was backing him saying he just was acting out of frustration and did so the wrong way. I also stated Gillespie and the team would not hold that against him that much being it is a sign he wants to be out there because he thinks he is the better player. Furthermore, many posters argued Porter was and is the better option at PG for UK, so with that being said and with a couple solid games under his belt, what is everyones opinions on DeAndre now? He needs to play as many minutes as possible in order to get used to the college game, and further develop his skills because obviously the potential is there. He will also be the best option certainly for this year and quite possibly the next few years to come, so he needs to be the one receiving more minutes and running the show at point. IMO it should be clear now that Liggins is so much better than Porter but does make mistakes because he is a freshman and sometimes tries to do to much. Again a week later, what does everyone think about Liggins now?

Again a week later, what does everyone think about Liggins now? First of all, congratulations, but dont hurt your shoulder patting yourself on the back. Secondly, Liggins has been the best option at PG for the team from the get-go. Porter is not a PG, he is a SG playing out of position. I actually like Porter, unlike most UK fans, and think he can be a contributor to this team at the SG backing up Jodie Meeks. I don't think it would hurt to let him spell DeAndre at the PG for 3 to 5 minutes a game either.
December 6, 200817 yr G handled this the right way. This team could not afford another transfer situation given what has happened the past few years.

He has a long ways to go and he's looked terrible up to this point.
December 6, 200817 yr What, he has one decent game, against Lamar. He has a long ways to go and he's looked terrible up to this point. You've hit nail here and answered, the $$million$$ dollar question, about many UK fans. We all seem to live and die, with "one game", sometimes one half of play or both. If they look good, UK can win the National Championship and if they lose, then the sky is falling. Porter early on, was a better option than Liggins. Neither are solid, on both sides of the ball and each will have to improve all around, if the 'Cats are going to be a good team. I don't think most people will disagree, that Liggins has the potential to be good but when given the opportunity to play early, he wasn't close to being ready. Liggins like any College Basketball player, must understand their role and work on the weaknesses in their game they need to improve, to help the overall success of the team.
December 6, 200817 yr Out of position or not as a Junior status Porter should not be making the same mistakes as an incoming Freshman PERIOD. SO with all things being equal and if mistakes are to be made then do it with frosh Liggins. I like Liggin's demeanor on the court and the way he looks up court once he gets the ball ...vs. Porter with his head down, pounding the ball in the backcourt, picking up his dribble once he crosses half-court, and most of the time his back is to basket allowing the defense to trap him immediately....Porters minutes will diminish as the year rolls on and definitely next year when GJ comes in.......I do agree though ....a frosh needs to "know or understand their role".....not going into the game was a definite mistake and i hope BCG ran the crap out of him at the next practice....
December 6, 200817 yr I said that he acted childish, and that hopefully Billy would not hold that against him. He clearly is the best option at PG, because as stated above, Porter is a SG, Liggins is the only true PG on the team. We all see who plays well together (Liggins, Meeks, Miller, Harrelson, Patterson). This game against Miami(FL) will show if they are really as good as they have played the last few games or just they are playing teams like Lamar and St. Mary's School for the Blind.
December 6, 200817 yr He wasn't ranked top 25 player in the country for nothing. Hmmm, there are other top 25 players in the country that seem to be doing MUCH better.
December 6, 200817 yr Author Hmmm, there are other top 25 players in the country that seem to be doing MUCH better. See this are the statements I don't understand. I mean really what is the logic behind this? Other than the West Virginia and Lamar games, when has DL had an actually fair shot to go out and play his game? Because if my eyes and memory have served me right every game he was in this season before that he played hunchbacked because he knew one bad pass would have him on the bench for practically the whole game. And thats what normally happened. However, after actually getting turned loose (game and a half to two games) he has looked good. So no wonder other top 25ers are looking much better, they all have gotten a fair shot at quality minutes. Liggins is just now receiving his minutes, so why not lay off the kid until at least mid season, then evaluate how he is playing then. Its hard to judge a kid that played five minutes, and had to play them looking over his shoulder, and that is what Liggins has been until the WV. I'm hoping its Liggins team to man from here on out, because Porter has no business doing it.
December 6, 200817 yr As much as I thought that Liggins was starting to look good at the beginning stages of this game, he came back to being the same player he has been thus far.

And god knows that UK is not a school that Liggins should have trouble getting PT, and showing his stuff. Look, I'm not knocking DL as a bad player, but he is a long ways away from being a D1 star. I have stated from the very beginning, this kid will need the entire year to understand the D1 game, then he will be good. unfortunatley, UK needs him now.
December 6, 200817 yr Hmmm, there are other top 25 players in the country that seem to be doing MUCH better. Yeah there are but half are big guys and half are guys who can create there own shot, or are natural scores. Liggins doesn't have a lot of confidence in his shot yet but I think his overall confidence will be up going into conference play. We weren't supposed to be banking on Liggins this year anywhere, supposed to be banking on Patterson and Meeks.

Liggins doesn't have a lot of confidence in his shot yet but I think his overall confidence will be up going into conference play. I'm not the least worried about his shot. We have the scorers on this team. But he wants to be a PG, and his passing has been atrocious up to this point.
December 7, 200817 yr As much as I thought that Liggins was starting to look good at the beginning stages of this game, he came back to being the same player he has been thus far. Liggins was the best player tonight. He got his team back into the game. 18 points, 5 assists, 7 rebounds, 2 steals, and only 3 turnovers....I know who I want to be the point guard...
