Lol which is exactly what I said. He played better defense then did some of the others. None of them did anything offensively. I don't think it's a stretch to think he could play varsity minutes with the way the others are playing.

He may have made a few good plays defensively but he wasn't overly impressive. 3rd and 4th quarter, Pawsatt, Barner, and Downing got to the rim and scored at will.

Lol. I never said he should be the new starter. But for a Sophomore that I didn't expect to be a varsity contributor this year, I thought he did a nice job while he was in. I agree completely with Pawsatt, Barner, and Downing scoring at will. In fact, I stated that earlier. I'm by no means saying CCH did a good job down low on defense. I'm simply stating Jake Thelen surprised me in his limited action.

The main problem is that none of guards can be trusted to bring down the ball. Our guards have an uncanny ability to throw the ball away immediately before or after they hit half court. This is shown in the 36 turnovers in 2 games. We won't win any game that way. But when they did happen to make it that far down the court, passing around the arc just won't work and that has ALWAYS been the offense of CCH. I don't think it's a secret we do NOT have the shooting this year.

 

Maybe things will change with the success the JV team is having so far this year. They do not play offense like this. So far they have beaten three pretty good teams by an 10 -12 pts each(Lex Cath, Mason and Elder)

It's odd, but the JV teams from CCH that I have watched, including last years players who are now playing varsity, never did that either. They ran plays, they passed in, they took good selection shots from the outside [and never went 5/23 or whatever outlandish number it was from tuesday]..and I'm not too sure why the JV theory isn't incorporated at the varsity level. But I know it's not bound to change anytime soon, so all we spectators can do is wonder.

I think he does a great job with his hustle, and I think he does well enough on defense to be a contributor for a couple quality minutes here and there. He should have a great JV year and next year be able to do much more varsity wise.

I believe I gave Shover credit and said he was a good guard but just didn't think he was all state like CCH24 was making him out to be. Nothing wrong with that. It's just my opinion.

 

WHo would Shover have guarded last night? All 5 Mason Co starters were 6'4 or taller and he can't break the press by himself.

Easy question to answer. Most if not all JV teams play OK defense - not great defense.

I agree. They need a PG, but I was pretty surprised with the way Austin Hudepohl played. He's definitely developed from last year. Andrew Schult also surprised me by how big he was.

Too early to tell. It will be long while they're waiting for Shover to get back to full health. From what I saw last night a few boys need an attitude adjustment and a lesson is respect. I hope the team leader(s) handle or it we'll have a repeat of some of last year's bunch.

Jared was (and still is) about 6'2" at most; add another inch in his basketball shoes. He could jump out of the gym, and was generally matched up against guys several inches taller. Grutza was tall for a point guard, but about 6'2" also.
