Anything can happen in a one and done situation. Ask Holmes, ask UK.... I know it is a far stretch to repeat, yet even get out the 10th region, but having belief is a a major motivator.

After watching this game, it is easy to see that Mason County is a much different team when they have Downing and Hamm playing. Downing gave the Royals a defensive spark, a little scoring, and some intensity that they desperately needed and Hamm brought leadership and good point guard play to help them. It is a night and day difference between Tuesday and Friday night. A 20 point win against a good Cov Cath team on the road is impressive.

 

Phil Barner and Neal Pawsat played great tonight. Both have greatly improved from last year and I was amazed to see how much bigger Neal had gotten. Both of these players will play key roles for the Royals this year.

 

It didn't really show up in the scoring column, but I think Russ played a good game as well. He pretty much scored at will, but it was nice to see him help his teammates get involved in the offense as well. He is a smart player and obviously knows that if the Royals are going to be successful this season, he will need help from several of his teammates and cant handle the entire scoring load by himself. This team will just keep getting better as the season goes on and they play more together.

The Royals focus will be on defending their 10th Region crown, and hopefully making the trip to Rupp. It won't be easy though, the 10th is wide open this year.

 

Scott County and Holmes are good teams, and I hope we do get a shot at them come March.

After the first the year games inlclude; at Scott Co., at Henry Clay, at Dunbar, at Clark CO, at Elliot Co, at Bryan Station.

 

Home games versus Lex Cath, Madison Central, Montgomery Co., and I believe Campbell Co.

 

Throw in the Ky Bank Shootout against Franklin Co. and the game at NKU versus St.X plus the tourney in Daytona over the holidays.

 

Maason Co. could go into postseason play with several losses, but valuable experience. The 10th region will be an interesting tourney this year in Northern Ky.

And yeah Isler obviously needs to get back into basketball shape, they anticipate it being a couple weeks before he is ready to go completely. But the technical was a quick whistle, and he shouldn't have said anything to the ref, but I heard from a few good sources, the ref thought he said something different than he did, .

 

When the ref is walking to the table and then stops on a dime after you say something he's not looking for your theories on what's going right and wrong. When he stops the message is clear: zip it. Zach misunderstood and got the T. Lesson learned.

Was at the game and although you say Maile is not a guard, you've seen him play I'm sure and you know he doesn't do much down low action. So yes he did play as a guard.

 

And at one point they even had an all JV lineup besides Maile, or it may have been Ives.

Thelen got away with fouls, that was the difference in his physicality. His blocks were 1. arm thrown out awkwardly and ball bouncing off it, and the others WERE fouls, just not called because they were slight. I do agree he did fine, but Thelen has a LONG way to go before he is ready for varsity. [not that it matters too much since varsity looks terrible].

Truth was outside of the tech, somebody needed to push the big guys down low on their rumps..cause we were getting pushed around, and that needed to be put to a quick stop.

No disrespect to him, but he isn't physically strong enough yet and to be quite honest the only way he scores is on easy lay ups. I've yet to see him post up, make a move, and score.
