The only way teams are going to beat Holmes this year is if they are on fire from 3pt land and if Holmes gives a lackluster defensive effort. From what I am reading about how hot Bryan Station was and what I read in early articles where Henley stated this about the defense I would think this may have been the problem tonight.

11 of 18 on 3's thats impressive. I agree with you about the defense. No way last year they give up that many points on such a high % from 3. This team has a lot of work to do. They will be fine when March comes.

So if they win next Sunday at NKU does that mean Scott Co. is overrated?

First off, congrats to Station on the W. They are better than advertised. As Goldie and Qryche stated, I wasn't at the game but here's the jist of what I heard from a pretty reliable source:

 

1. Ricardo Johnson was a stud tonight and had over 20 points. Unfortunately for him, the boys didn't play well enough defensively to win the game. Spoke with Riley after the game and he said he played terrible but the Pittman and JJ both had decent games. IMO Riley is the key to Holmes success. HE is the senior pg and needs to take on the leadership role.

 

2. Holmes actually was leading through the fourth quarter and the score was closer than the score indicated. Midway through the 4th, Station hit a couple shots to take the lead and Hollmes started to collapse from there. With Station up around 5 Holmes had to start fouling which allowed the lead to inflate to double digits because they had to start jacking up 3's.

 

3. Defensively there was no intensity and the guards for BS had big games. Both Morones and Ashford were tough to handle so kudos to them for stepping up big. The two big men were non factors in the game though since the game was so uptempo. Station was able to win this game because they got hot from out on the arc which it's going to take to beat Holmes...a GOOD shooting team.

 

4. All in all the loss was a combination of Holmes playing terrible and Station just flat out being a good team. No excuses about it. Holmes got a nice slice of humble pie which is probably good for them so they realize they aren't invincible. It's still early though. If I remember correctly, Holmes lost to Male early last year and went on to win 27 of their next 28 on their way to the state championship, so for those using the "overrated" chants..:lol:

 

No team will go undefeated in KY. Holmes luckily got their loss out of the way early. Again, congrats to BS.:thumb:

Our boys ate some during their scrimmages. I have a feeling that it is a dessert that will be served often this basketball season.

It 's hard to rate high school kids. Most rankings in high school are on potential. I dont think there over-rated. There just not playing with the same fire and passion they did last year. It has to start on D for Holmes. Henely will get his message across. Holmes will be fine.

Can't win them all. It's not how you start, it's how you finish and look for holmes to find there leader and finish strong. Riley needs to sit the boys down and get them together, he is the leader they need.

When I saw Holmes this summer they strutted around, didn't like it when anyone guarded them closely, and had very little respect for their opponents. They are VERY talented, but...........
