I believe I stated that Holmes didn't have the intensity on defense that they had last season. That being said I don't think this means anything more than Bryan Station is a good team and Holmes needs to regroup and fix a few things.

But people who WEREN'T at the game should get on here and talk about how overrated a team is after ONE loss to a top 20 team though right?

 

I feel like if Holmes makes it out of the 9th and goes to Rupp its been a great season. Depth will probably be a probelm all year. We only go 6 or seven deep. We will be dancing in March. How far they go remains to be seen. [iMO] They are still a year away from a state title. Next year the will be loaded and probably preseason number 1.

It's easy to understand how kids of this age can get over confident and start reading the press clipings of how good their "supposed " to be. They need to just look back a about three years and see what happened to the trio of Rice, Jeffeson, & Hill after their great sophomore run. I believe a loss now could refocus the young Dawgs and they need to remember they have got a bullseye on their back the size of New York because every body wants to beat the best and will bring their A games to the Dawgs. I also know Coach Henley very well and I can tell you he's not happy about his Defense giving up 80+ points. The Dawgs have some tough days ahead of them in the gym with the focus on DEFENSE!

 

That team there last year did played on Saturday at Rupp. They lost to the state champs in which Rice had twenty six. Two 9th region championship and a state semi later people are still ripping them. That was one of the best classes Holmes has had in along time.

You don't think that it could have possibly been a difference in the level of competition?

 

Sure it did, but Riley has been doing the same thing at the AAU level against top notch competition for years. As stated earlier he didn't shoot nearly as much against Bryan Station as he did Beechwood, and the coaches were SCREAMING at him to be more aggressive and shot the rock.

I agree. I think they are still a year away from being a legit state title contender. They are no doubt a top 5 team, but IMO the reason for that is talent and not their TEAM play.

 

I've told several people I didn't think Holmes was ready to compete for a state title this year because of a lack of depth but that next year they would be unreal with the Johnson Brothers, Pittman, and Arnold and would have a very deep bench with the good JV team that they have this year..

No way. Scott county has plenty coming back. Plus you know there will b some transfers come next summer.

They will be able to replace Riley next year with a team effort. They will be solid from out on the arc with Pittman, Cardo, and Arnold. All three can shoot the 3 well. I believe Cardo was 4 for 5 from beyong the arc last night.

The truth is, he just completely stopped shooting as much in the B'wood game because he wasn't trying to be the "ball hog" but he needs to know when and when not to turn it off. His team needs him and his leadership.

I ceratinly felt the way that they played against BW should have been an indication that this team was not clicking. Will they be in Rupp at the end of the year yes. That's because of the talent that this team has. But IMO, I do not believe that this is ready to compete with the top talent until they find themselves. I'v stated many times on here that the loss of Henderson was going to cost this team signifincantly. All the talent on the floor is lost without the type of leadership that he brought to the team. That's what is missing, and this team will not beat a Scott Co next week without that. In March, I would full well anticipate that they will have found that leadership on the floor and will be well deserving of the #2 ranking. But obviously, at this time of the season they are not.

As I stated earlier, Holmes is still somewhat young with the Johnson Brothers, Pittman, and Arnold which are 4 of their top 6. They will have their ups and downs. Sure they have experience and talent, but their youth will show some this year against the better teams. As you stated though, by February they will be clicking on all cylinders and I'm sure they will have found their identity. Right now they are looking for a leader. Ricardo showed signs of it last night with his big game, but the bottom line is this team has to play defense. Defense wins championships and is what carried them last year.

 

I'd hate to be a player for Holmes right now though. I know they practiced today and will tomorrow as well and after the Newport game on Tues., I expect Henley to give them a wake up call in practice to prepare for Scott Co.

Never said that he wasn't legit. I very much like his game, but there's a difference in the level of competition. He needs to learn how to step it up when they need him, which is against tougher competition. They didn't need him against Beechwood, and that makes it a heck of a lot easier to let the game come to you.

I thought this might be the case, Bryan Station could sneak up on some teams in the 11th! Even though it would not be much of a sneak, they are very good!:thumb:

 

Coming into the season, there were some questions about how they would replace Mack. Everone new Morones and Ashford could play. Evidently they have recovered quite well. They are going to have trouble sneaking up on anyone now. Good win for the Defenders.
