Top 10 7th grade teams in the state!

Featured Replies

Your picks are right on the money. Johnson County is enormous and athletic. IMO, that team is a front runner. Walton's will need production from their bigs to advance deep into Sunday, in a zero post offense they are like fish out of water. Scott will be solid with Portwood. Lincoln and Meece also very solid.

If pool play game is a blind draw there could be some good teams playing each other early.

Walton will definitely need some production from their bigs to advance. They play to their strength and it's certainly their guards. However, they do run more than a zero post offense. Johnson Central has to be the favorite going into the tournament. With a blind draw, there could be some good teams that get knocked out early.

I agree with the teams mentioned above being favorites. As a Fleming Co. fan the two I do not want to meet up with early is Johnson Central and Lincoln. Fleming did not play one of their better games (the opponent played a part in this) but Lincoln Co. put us out in 6th state by 11 points. We hung around close but could never get over the hump and eventually ran out of steam. Don't recall ever playing Johnson but I know that would be a tough match up. Don't know much about Walton other than they evidently have strong guard play which would be our strength as well. It should be exciting, but I would be shocked if anyone can handle Johnson.

I would have to say that LTMS is the favorite for 7th grade. They were in the final 4 last year and added Green from Sayre (who was the state champions last year). Johnson Central should definately be one of the final four teams. I would hate to have either of these teams on my side of the bracket. My sleeper is Clinton Co. They beat Johnson Central last year to get into the finals and ended up state runner up.

Fleming County for sure, they just slipped my mind after a tough weekend. Fleming has played together forever and have all of the pieces necessary to make a run. Clinton will play great early but when Dalton starts to slow down they are done. We have a very weak bench just like the 6th grade Bulldogs and when we substitute we take a huge hit. You just don't want Clinton first.

A couple of other teams that could surprise someone are Southern (Southwestern) and Wayne Co. from our area. Don't take either of these teams lightly.

Johnson County has not played in two weeks due to weather. Hopefully they can get some court time in before the tourney. They are not allowed to play if no school.

Didn't Lincoln Counties 7th grade team beat Southwestern's 8th grade team at LCA about a week ago?

Clay County also has a very solid team. I don't know if they will enter though.

Yes, they did. But, Meece beat lincoln by 10 the first time they played. Lincoln beat Meece in overtime the second time. Meece just beat Southern in OT last weekend. In other words, Meece, Lincoln, and Southern are all pretty close with Lincoln probably the better of the 3. Clinton also beat Southern by 2 the last time they played. Southern is a pretty good team. My whole reason for that post was to let everyone know not to underestimate Southern or Wayne Co. If you do they might surprise you. :thumb:

Sounds like more than 10 teams are very competitive. Any others to add to this list:

LTMS

Johnson County

Georgetown

Walton

Fleming

Lincoln

Meece

Southern

Clinton

Hazard

Clay County

Crosby

Conner

Wayne

I think Moss MIddle (Warren Central) will be a final 4 team. They play a fantastic diamond and 1, 3/4 court press. They are loaded with athletes and everyone on the team is a real scoring threat. I know they are undefeated and unchallenged. We hoped to play them but it didn't work out this season.

So who is your pre-bracket final four? I know it will change once the brackets come out.

Moss, Crosby, Johnson Central, LTMS

other 4 in the final 8

Meece, Fleming County, Scott County, Lincoln County

All 8 of these teams are solid top to bottom. Scott and Meece are more star oriented.

I think you have made a pretty good assessment.
