I know I'm coming in a little late on the field goal issue, but after seeing it on video, the refs completely blew that call and it wsas good by atleast a foot. As someone else said though, oh well, we still won.

It was good to get to meet some of the Highland faithful before the game.

Sure the Birds won and most say move on, but seriously here is a Senior Kicker and an All-State Candidate, who is working on his chance getting to the next level. Kickers are rated on scores and misses, especially in the clutches. In fact the Kicker receives an negative mark against this performance, while HOMER gets a paycheck.

 

We ALL expect the Officiating Crew to be top notch at this level of the season.:thumb:

I honestly don't think one missed field goal will cost this kid his future... plus Merrick from Bell has the 1st team spot locked up..I think he has room for a few misses without being judged too harshly.

Should the camera have been placed on top of the referee's hat? Seriously, give me a break. I love how the ref had to look over at the other ref who had a worse view of it for his approval. It was the old, when in doubt call it no good.

The one on the side of the ball, tells the guy away from the ball if it is good or not.

I met Merrick at the UT vs. Uk game this weekend he is a nice young man. He and his Dad were at the game with a coach from Bell County, really nice people!!!

NFHS Rule 8-4-1c (Field Goal)...The kicked ball shall pass between the vertical uprights or inside of the uprights extended and above the crossbar of the opponent's goal. (If any portion of the ball is judged to be outside the inner edge of the uprights extended, the kick is deemed unsuccessful).

 

NCAA Rule 12-7-1...In order to reverse an on-field ruling, the replay official must see indisputable video evidence through one or more video replays provided to the monitor.

Judging whether a highly kicked ball is within the posts simply cannot be done accurately at any point other than under each post. It's simple physics !!

 

Central folks here know how hard I've ridden that program over the years. I'm sure they'll get a good laugh out of me being called a "homer" for them.

And if the ball wasn't completely within the left upright, the official MUST call it "no good", even if it does result in the kicker getting a "negative mark".

 

The game's integrity is more important than a kick, no matter how "in the clutch" it is...
