I hate DRUNK people.

So went to our usual bar. Last night there were about 12 of us there. Tonight only 4. In the process of leaving, we encountered some guys giving another guy(in a wheel chair a hard time). We tried to mind our own business because we weren't familiar with the situation and thought they might just be drunk friends, well apparently they wanted attention. We even went as far as to walk literally about 50 yards away from where the shouting started. They followed and were beligerantly drunk.

These guys had one thing on their mind, throwing punches. We didn't want any part of it, didn't feel like spending the night in jail. Needless to say, shy of running away there was no way to avoid the outcome.

I got punched first, sucker punched from someone on the side. I hadn't even said two words, didn't even show emotion, though I thought it was comical. Needless to say I lost my phone in the process, outnumbered 5-4, and after being punched first, I walked away with only a busted lip.

I just don't understand people, these guys were just garbage, that couldn't handle their liquor and wanted to start a fight. Now I've heard people say you should always punch the biggest guy first, but I just thought maybe my pea coat made me look "not too big". Apparently I was wrong.

I'm really not mad about getting sucker punched, because the other guys got it worse. I'm just really ticked off that some drunk idiots that don't know up for down, made me lose my cell phone. Went back and looked for it, no dice. Gonna go check tomorrow, but seriously why can't people just be some what smart.

I'm ticked, had to vent, but yea I did the right thing tonight and I'm kinda proud of myself for it. Usually I have a short temper but tonight I was actually mature.

Also for my fellow MMA fans, you would've been quite proud of my ground and pound tonight. No one that I'm aware of ws seriously injured, well except for the other guys ego's maybe, basically what I'm trying to say, is Happy Thanksgiving BGP!!!!:dancingpa

What "IF" one of these drunks had a weapon such as a knife or gun. Some fights are hard to avoid. It sounds like you are in your usual bar. Is that every night? Maybe hang out at the gym every other night and cut your chances in half of running into a drunk. I'm trying not to be sarcastic, and it's really not any of my business. Sorry it's the "DAD" and "UNCLE" coming out in me.

I'm not trying to answer for Sportsfan41, but in my personal thoughts:

Learn how to disarm somebody. It's not easy, but not unlearnable/impossible. I'd personally be more confident in my ability to disarm a drunk person than hope their senses are bad enough to miss. A knife is a little more risky, but that's when you grab a chair or something with a longer reach and go to town. All in the name of self-defense.

Also, for the record, I am not a big fan of drunks, either. I usually like to maintain a nice buzz in the drinking process rather than get drunk.

Oh, and HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you as well, SF41!!!

Sportsfan, you're a good one, because I would have ended up in jail if someone sucker punched me...Me in jail, them in the hospital.

You ever considered getting your concealed license? It wouldn't be used in this case... But what if one of them had a knife or gun as stated before?

As far as fighting go... I'm with this guy^. To make the situation better... they're drunk.. It's a wonder that they could even stand let alone fight. :fight:

But you handled yourself well! You were the bigger man that night!

Which other guys got it worse? Your friends?

You go to a bar and then complain about drunk people ? Isn't that like going to a strip club and complaining about all the naked women ?

Just playin with ya. That sucks. Your a better man than I am, my temper would have taken over and I would have spent my Thanksgiving behind bars.

Have you reported your cell phone as lost ? I'd do that ASAP. Have your carrier turn it off. No telling who has it now and what calls they're making.

Thats one of the reasons I try to avoid bars. Too many stupid people in this world. Why cant people have some drinks and enjoy themselves and make the atmosphere enjoyable for all?

That's a bad thing to have to worry about. You might know all the fighting techniques in the world in a cage, but in a bar or something they could have any kind of weapon.

I've learned some techniques for disarming people with guns and knives and they are tough. I wouldn't feel comfortable with those techniques unless I had practiced a lot...which I have not.

Like I said earlier, I try to avoid bars for these same reasons. Early on in my adulthood, I was a patron of some pretty rough establishments. Ive seen knives and guns and brassknuckles. I seen 1 guy with an awful wound on his arm from trying to disarm some guy with a knife. It took 37 stitches to sew him back up. I seen guns pulled but not used. Its not worth trying to disarm people. Walk away if possible.

When I first read that you posted this Sportsfan I was thinking how much of an oxymoron this was . Also while reading this I was wondering how you texted me last night, but then I seen the time of post.

I work out five days a week, and am sizeably bigger than all of my friends. I wasn't even going to go out last night, but was pretty bored so I headed out.

The whole gun/knife thing is the reason I never try to get involved in fights with drunk people especially at a bar. These guys were going to get in a fight with someone, unfortunately for them they chose the wrong group to fight with.

Agreed, I don't get drunk in public places, my step dad was a police officer for 25 years and CJ is my minor. I have to feel as though I have controll over my environment and surroundings when I'm out, and it's hard to do that with too much to drink.
