I think if Estill can score first and get their 2 point conversion right off the bat then they will control the game. Fugate will eventually score but the Neers will chug chug on down the field while eating away at the clock and will win this game.

I am going to give Breathitt the edge since it is at Breathitt. The difference between Breathitt this game and Breathitt the first game against Estill is more Fugate this time around. Haddix ran the ball a lot against Estill in the first game. When Breathitt started going to Fugate every play, on the last drive of the game, Estill had no answer. Also Pritchard wasn't getting very many carries in that first game. Finally, in the first game Fletcher had a problem catching the ball. I don't think he will have that problem this time around. Defensively in the first game, Breathitt did slow Estill's running game holding them over 100 yards below their game average. Breathitt has to play better up front than they have been playing. If they do Breathitt will win. If they don't play better up front it could be a long night for the bobcats. Breathitt needs to play with a lead to win this game. That could force Estill out of their comfort zone, thus changing the game in Breathitt's favor.

I think if 2 teams have a close game the first time, the team that loses may have an advantage. I'll take the Engineers to win the Region.

This is far as they have gone. They have never got past second round.

Choo choo M.B.??? Geez. I agree with ya mama, if Estill can get a lead, things could turn out well for the Engineers.

Estill will find out what? Breathitt beat them by 1 at Breathitt earlier in the year so they know they can play with them and win. Estill contained Fugate pretty well in that game if I recall holding him to less than 100 yards rushing. Estill has gotten better every week. If they continue to chip away and work hard, I predict the 'Neers in this one. I'll say Estill 35 Breathitt 28

 

Do they? They outplayed Breathitt and should have won, but they couldn't seal the deal. Sometimes it is hard for a program that hasn't advanced deep into the the playoffs to overcome that hurdle vs. one that has.

 

Based on the first game, which Breathitt was outplayed in and lucky to win...and the way Estill has played lately vs. Breathitt's past two games in which they slept through the first half...I'd favor Estill County in this game.

 

A big factor is the tradition of Breathitt County (where they've advanced deeper in the playoffs consistently and expect to win these games) vs. an Estill County team that has never been in this position before...will that play a role? Or can Estill take care of business in the regional finals?

 

I don't mean this as a knock on Estill County at all. I can remember when Breathitt County had never knocked that door down...its not easy to do, even when your team is better. One year in (the old) 3A we played Bell County and our team would move the ball up and down the field, yet Bell County would keep us out of the end zone. We ended up losing by a wide margin to a team that we felt we were at least as good as. Why? IMO, a huge part of it was the fact that Bell County had been there, done that, knew they could win those games and expected to do just that. Breathitt, on the other hand, thought they could beat Bell County, but they'd never actually proved it on the final scoreboard.

 

If BC doesn't play better than they did against Estill the first time, or the last two playoff games, they should lose this game...

Estill has not played very good teams in the playoffs. They are a good team and have earned to be here, but Breathitt wins a tough game 28-16

I think that this has the makings of a good game. Estill has a style of play that has given Breathitt trouble in the past. However I see Breathitt being way to explosive on offense for this to be similiar to the first meeting. Breathitt will move the ball much more easily and win by 2 to 3 touchdowns. Should be a great atmosphere in Jackson this Friday night.

Estill's had a fine season. But I think their weak non-district schedule gives Breathitt the advantage. Estill loaded up with teams like Pineville, Berea, Phelps, Knott, Bourbon, while Breathitt played JC, P'burg, and LCA. I know some of Estill's opponents had good seasons, but they weren't the calibur teams Breathitt played. Breathitt did the same thing last year, playing a weak schedule, and it cost them. Good luck to both teams. I don't think this one will be 7-6.
