Macshara had 260 yards of amazing runs against FC only 10 yards short of Boyle County's single game rushing record of 270 yards set by Ed Sleet in 1966.

 

Very impressive. I know Ed well and can tell you he is a much better running back than he is a golfer.:sssh::sssh::sssh:

The game could have been a little closer with some offensive production out of Franklin County there were people open most of the night, just FC was not able to make the catches and throws at the right times, Turnovers killed FC drives. Boyle County is a good team but after seeing the and a few of the other top 4a teams I do not think they will win state, I think Lex. Cath and Bell could both knock them off. Boyle County gets alot out of some kids, their lineman and Linebackers are very good and are over achievers for the most part congrats to the staff on the development of those kids. Boyle Co's skill kids are talented but I think they (other than #2) will need to perform better to win it all.

 

I agree that Lex Cath and/or Bell can defeat the Rebels.

 

It is amazing to think that Boyle has given up so few points this year with the defense they have.

This was a good game for Boyle before the Catholic game. They didn't need a easy game like the previous weeks. Even though Boyle had a big lead nothing came easy for them last night. Franklin was big and had a good defense that tested the Rebels on offense. Boyle starters seen a little more action in the 4th. quarter, which they will do here on out. It seems everyone came away healthy and Friday can't get here quick enough. :ylsuper:

No it wasn't that close. They only got the ball past the 50 yard line once or twice in the first 3 quarters and one was on a penalty. Their first possession got them a couple of first downs, but they never seriously threatened to score. A great punt allowed them to get a safety, but the score was 42-2 at one point. Hard to call that a close game.

 

I don't know if it was the cold weather but our receivers have to do a better job of making the catch and those same receivers need to be more opportunistic when they are playing defense. We dropped at least 3 interceptions and a couple of long gaining pass plays. Some of that can attributed to the qb misfiring also. Our passing game as a whole needs to be a lot sharper. Thank goodness for Rees McShara legs.

 

And also, is it just me or does anyone else's heart skip a beat when Rees actually tries to catch the punt. I am in favor of either putting someone else back there or not putting anyone back there at all. He really scares me when he makes a play on the punt. Do they not spend a lot of time on it in practice because he never looks comfortable fielding the punt.

Yes, he makes me a nervous wreck fielding punts. We have to have someone to field them though, that would be potentially a largr amount of yardage to give up if we didn't have anyone back there.

I'd just as soon give up the yardage than watch him give them the ball back. It just makes me so nervous. Most of the season he has been back there to field them, but then he doesn't field it. That doesn't bother me, he does a great job of getting out of the way. It's like he makes up his mind too late that he is going to catch the punt and it turns into an awkward occasion for him trying to catch it. Plus, he is so important to our offense and he isn't a big running back by any stretch of the imagination, why even risk a potential offense crippling injury to him by having him back there anyways. Every punt I see in the sky, I remember the Danville game when the punt hit him in the helmet.:scared::eek::scared:

Maybe all you guys should be coaching special teams for BC!!! I'm pretty sure if they had some one who was better they would be back there!As a FC fan at the game at Friday I will say that young man is the best running back I have seen since Jordan Kramer at Highlands.I hope he doesn't read these threads with all you supposed fans critical comments!These are our children out there playing a game for THEIR enjoyment.:madman:

First off, no one is talking about his skills as a running back. We all know he is the best running back in the area and that if he doesn't get Area Player of the Year in the Advocate Messenger, then something is off somewhere.

 

Secondly, anyone, and I mean anyone who has watched Boyle County play throughout the year knows that this has been one of the few problems of the season. Shaky punt returns are a fact and it is painfully obvious it needs work before it hurts us in a big game. You can see the lack of confidence he has in every punt he fields. You were at the game Friday you say, so you saw him call a fair catch and then catch the punt at the last possible second. He almost dropped that one!:scared: Like I said, I don't know if they need to work on it more in practice or what, but I will say I have been watching Rees play football for a long time, a lot longer than you, and when I say he looks uncomfortable fielding punts then that is what my eyes tell me. And apparently there are a lot of Boyle County fans who see the same thing I do.

 

Thirdly, you are right, they are our children playing a game for their enjoyment, but I bet he doesn't enjoy fielding punts as much as you may think. He has tremendous ability as running back, but his hands are not essential to his success as a running back.

A real fan can be critical of their team and still root for their team to victory. I have a hard time believing anyone who sat or stood or paced for warmth during last Friday's game is not a real fan of either team regardless of how critical they may sound. We have to play better to win a state championship.

I'm not talking about general comments, I'm talking about naming a player by name.I may say something to my pals or in the stands but not on here for a kid to see.

Whether I said his name or not, he is the only person who has fielded punts for us all year so it would be obvious as to who I was talking about. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to beat up a kid up mentally, but I am not going to sugarcoat things either. Our punt return needs work and if he does happen to get on here and read it, I hope it doesn't hurt his feelings too bad, but any kid who gets on here runs the risk of seeing something he/she may not like or agree with. Imagine being a football player or a coach for Covington Catholic and coming on to this website.:eek:

Your right about Coach French knows more than any of us but the best running back in the area has struggled to field punts this year and he would tell you that himself. The mark of a good player is that he knows his strengths and weaknesses. I trust the coaching staff to put the best team on the field at all times.
