You would have to think that Fugate from Breathitt would be the best in the mountains next year and maybe one of the best in the state. He has over 2000 yards for the season already and at 6'3 225 pounds he is a load to bring down. He was benching over 325 at the beginning of the year and continues to gt faster and stronger.

I didn't know Fugate was coming back. He will definitely be the best back in the mountains next year.

 

I don't think he could play in the SEC, though. I think he would be a good fit at EKU or WKU.

Dustin May- Last year at Belfry...... but I think Fugate is a step or two faster but not as strong yet as Dustin.

 

For the record, May wound up at Georgetown.

 

Durrell White who played for Middlesboro/Bell County is alsoa favorable comparison except White was a bit bigger and wound up playing DE at UK.

Fugate should look hard at some of the in state schools. Playing D1 anywhere is an acheivement and schools like WKU are recruiting from Florida, Texas and California so why wouldn't an in-state recruit look at that as a possibility.

Of the young backs Harlan Co's Cody Taylor has the makings of a real nice RB, he is small in height 5'6" but has great speed and has natural cut back moves, he is also a headhunter on D, with another year in the weight room he could have a breakout year in 09.

Perhaps I was a bit too demonstrative with my statement. Maybe it might be a little close. :-) When I saw the title of the thread, though, I just figured it would be obvious the name that would immediately come to mind...and that is Fugate. I just say that having seen him play as a sophomore and having seen some of his ridiculous stats from this year. Varney from Belfry is good as well, but I can't see how anyone wouldn't think that Fugate is the "star" running back in the mountains next season.

I like Varney too. He isn't Fuggate but he is a really underrated high school back IMO.

Shane Pack from Lawrence Co has the ability to be one of the biggest sleepers next year if he works hard in the off season. He's about 6'1 215ish.

I agree with you on Pack.. you put him on a team with a good line and a few other offensive options and he is a superstar.

 

Varney is the most versatile player in EKY, and he truly is good at every aspect he does.

 

Channing Fugate is simply one of those rare backs that come along once in a blue moon.
