November 18, 200817 yr I know he had a good year but his health is a huge concern. I'm not worried about his health, it's his ability that worries me. I hope I'm wrong, but last year he was very, very good and I just don't see him keeping that going. I'm scared that "Dumpster" will be back.:creepy:

I know its risky being it was his first productive season as a starter, and one of his first healthy seasons, but people tend to over look that Dempster has been a career long bullpen guy and has only transitioned into being a starter for a year or two. So instead of just an absolute fluke season, I just think its a sign of what Dempster can do when he is healthy and has a consistent role (ala being in the rotation).

Dempster was a starter when he started his career. In fact he was solely a starter until he joined the Cubs.

Obviously you are not familiar with Dumpster's career at all. Dempster had a great season, but I'm not sure that this deal will be worth it. Fortunately for the Cubs, they have enough money to be able to make a mistake like this without crippling the ballclub.

November 18, 200817 yr Obviously you are not familiar with Dumpster's career at all. After re-reading the statement it does sound as so, but what I meant was that after around the early 2000's Dempster was only looked at as a bullpen guy, if anything. After being a descent starter early in his career no one thought he would ever bounce back from injury and come back after Tommy John. No one really wanted to take a chance on him as a starter after that, but after a year or two in the Cubs pen, they put him back on the hill. I honestly think his arm and his confidence has improved after the 2005 surgery, and Dempster may be pitching the best he has ever pitched his entire life.
November 18, 200817 yr A little overpaid I think but if he can continue to win 15-17 games a year, then I'm ok with it. Dempster is a Cub, plain and simple and I'd rather see him in Cubbie blue than somewhere else. I'm glad he's still around!
November 19, 200817 yr I wouldn't put my eggs into that basket. He's usually good when healthy but he's a huge risk. How sweet is the MLB union, guaranteed money.
