If he gets hurt, its not like they can't afford it, heck they paid 2 pitchers more given the rest of the leagues salaries with Prior and Wood.

Dempster had a great season last year but IMO 4 years and that kind of jack is a huge risk at this point in his career. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens but I personally don't see him being able to keep that level of play up over the next 4 years.

If the Cubs didn't give it to him, someone else would have. The Cubs and Padres couldn't work out the players needed to pull off the Peavy trade so Dempster was Plan 'B'.

Go Cubs.:dancingpa

A little overpaid I think but if he can continue to win 15-17 games a year, then I'm ok with it. Dempster is a Cub, plain and simple and I'd rather see him in Cubbie blue than somewhere else. I'm glad he's still around!

Dempster is a great guy to have around the club house:thumb:

A Peavy trade to the Cubs Is still a very good possibility.

The San Diego Union Tribune reports that Jake Peavy "has created the impression" to friends that he'd prefer to be traded to the Cubs.

"We're still talking to the Cubs," general manager Kevin Towers said. "They may have to redo some things

I find it incredible that guys like Dempster can be making this kind of money. It's crazy. Solid pitcher, but a $13 mil a year guy?

The Cubs and Pads are looking for a 3rd team to complete the deal. The Cubs can only give prospects, the Pads are wanting an every day player so they have to find a team willing to take prospects to move their everyday player to the Pads for the Cubs to land Peavey, still very possible and the Cubs are also eyeing Furcal which would be nice!
