I could see that if they had won a district game or two to earn their spot. But frankly, if my team had "made" the playoffs without winning a single game, I'd be too embarrassed to talk about it in public.

 

We play in the toughest 4-A district in Ky and it has 5 teams so we do have to win in order to make the playoffs. This year we had an exciting 30 point come from behind victory (all 30 points of the comeback was in the 4th quarter) to earn our trip to the playoffs. So, our players have every right to be proud that they made the playoffs. Last year we beat a district team 16-14 in a hard faught exciting football game to make the playoffs for the first time in schools history. Our players are proud of that and we are very proud of our players. I am sorry that we don't come from a highly populated area with plenty of employment oportunities like there are in the Fort Thomas area (I grew up just across the river) so we may not have everything going for us to have a football dynasty but we are proud of the accomplishments of our kids and there is NOTHING they can do to make us embarrassed to talk about them in public. Okay, you totally missed the point of my post; so I'll try it for you again. I said that if a team makes the playoffs, simply because there are only four teams in their district, they have nothing to brag about.

 

I don't know who your team is, so I was obviously not referencing your team in any way. So there's no need to throw out the old excuses about economic opportunity (as if that has a thing to do with football :lol:), or anything else. You were making a point that any kid that got in the playoffs would be proud of that fact for the rest of their lives. I was simply pointing out that, in some cases, that just isn't so. Again, not referencing whatever team you happen to support.

I feel sorry for them because they are able to "make" the playoffs at 0-10 and face one of the best teams in 4A.

I was on the sideline of a 1-9 team this weekend and they were talking about "having" to play next week. Teams should not be rewarded for "existing".

Yeah, its getting pretty rough when you "have" to make the playoffs.

I agree that several 1st round games are not very exciting for the fans to watch and we were in one of those games last year but I can tell you that our players talked about it all year and it was a great motivational tool for off-season workouts in the weightroom. Not to mention that our senior class gets to brag for the rest of their lives that they were the 1st group of seniors to ever make the playoffs in our schools history (if only the top 2 went they wouldn't have had that life changing ecperience). I can't believe that anyone who cares about this sport and the kids who play it wouldn't want those kinds of opportunities for the kids throughout this state! All I ask is to think about the kids who play this great sport and put them 1st. You say it is watered down....well I say we can't live without water!:banana:

I agree it really makes for some :sleep::sleep:of games.

Found this from a post I made last year after week one when the same complaints were being made about four teams from each district getting in the playoffs...

 

3 #4 seeds won on the road over the #1's last night.

16 #3 seeds won on the road over the #2's last night.

( I don't think these teams think it was a boring week)

 

27 games were decided by less than 16 point (2 TD's + Conv) last night with many other games being that close late in the second half, before on team pulled away.

 

It doesn't hurt anything allowing these extra teams in the playoffs. As far as hurting basketball, please.......the last few weeks only the very best football teams are still going by Thanksgiving. After this Friday over half of the schools in the state will not have to worry about football anymore this year, after next week over 75% are done with football. I just don't buy that this is hurting basketball at all.

I hope one of those boring teams comes up with an upset that will have everyone changing their mind. Remember any team can be beat if the right things happen. AND when a team gets to thinking they can not be beat it can happen
