Senior day is not a sporting event, it is the schools way of recognizing outgoing seniors. If this kid had played any in the past couple of years I could maybe understand your point, maybe. He was handed the job after injury. and the 2 times I saw him play, I would have sat him as well. It was his job to lose and he did.It was the coaches game time decision to play whom he thought gave CCH the best chance to win, do you think he knew he would get heat, I am sure. At least he put the school first unlike some of the posters. If the coaches went by your thinking on senior day, they would need to start all seniors regardless of skill or talent.If it was me I would rather sit than make a token social appearence that means more to the high brow alumni than me. Its called competitve SPORTS not HIGH TEA.

Your right Erpenbeck gave them a better shot for victory that is why it was 56-0. Maybe if the Sr. played they might have scored a point. Last I checked its an offensive position and 0 points is 0 points.

 

I understand Brossart wants to win games and he is going to put the best player out there but from it sounds like, he is alienating himself over there and this just makes him look even worse.

 

In the end you have to have players to win and I still think the reason CCH is losing is because it is a downturn in talent.

Here are the facts:

 

Erpenbeck and Young have been sharing snaps in practice since Isler was injured.

Erpenbeck played JV QB as a sophomore.

Erpenbeck this season had been focusing on LB and was behind in the learning of the offense.

Both QBs were told at the beginning of the week that either might start; the whole team knew that.

Both took snaps in pregame with the first team.

Erpenbeck did as well as could be expected with Tigers all over him.

If Young didnt get in the fourth quarter, ALL THE CRITICS would be complaining about that.

As Rockpride stated, the coaches start the players they feel will give them the best chance to win whether it is senior day or not. Unless you witnessed practice all week, you cannot speak as to who should start or not les you speak out of ignorance.

Is the coach supposed the play the players that makes the parents and the fans happy?????

No matter who starts, some parent is not going to be happy.

 

No coach makes every fan and parent happy; CCH just has a bunch of people who THINK they know what is going on when in reality, they are like every other casual fan, armchair QB.

I have seen the UK basketball team start seniors who shouldn't be in the game, against competition too tuff for them. If it happens at that level, it just seems odd it can't happen here. Especially when the guy has been starting for you lately.

 

The score was 56-0 with the "best" QB, what would the score have been if the Senior started? This is about the score that most predicted before the game, so why did it matter? IMO, it would have just been best to start the senior, and bring on the junior as early as you wanted after that, even in the 2nd or 4rd series. Bringing him in down 56-0 is even more debateable. You should have left your junior in at that point to get more snaps.

 

I agree. I can understand had yesterday been a game that actually had playoff implications or meant something, not starting Young, but there was no reason for the classless act by the CCH coach.

 

Something to think about:

 

Two years ago Listerman tried to play Billy Schultz on his senior day who injured his knee and was out for the season. He wanted to put the young man out on the floor crutches and all (which the Brossart Bishop High School coach had no problem with it nor did the CovCath players or BB players) but the referees wouldn't allow it to happen because of insurance reasons (which everybody understood). CovCath seems to lose more senior day basketball games than they win because coach L starts his seniors and every player on the team understands that the seniors start on senior day. Coach Ray did it and so did Coach R.

 

Why is it that Brossart is the only coach at Covcath that hasn't figured out that senior day isn't about winning or losing but rather honoring those seniors and their parents for all of their hard work and contributions to the program and school over their 4 years there?

FYI... last year's regional finals basketball game against Holmes; Senior Aaron Nole didn't even step foot onto the floor even though he started all year. And at the end of the game Listerman didn't just throw him in to get some time. Thats showing much more class than what Brossart did.
