As an outsider, who didn't pay attention prior to the game, my question is: "what did they have to lose?" I could see it possibly giving them (Lafayette) some enthusiasm.

Enthusiasm! You have to be kidding! There are lots of other ways to create enthusiasm. It's plain and simple, no respect or class by the coaches and players. All that it gets Lafayette is a major beat down. FYI! After the game when the players traditionally shake hands and go to their team huddles on the field, with the score board reading 65-0, the Lafayette players tried to huddle on the Power T at midfield. The 100 plus Rocks had to make a wall and slowly move them away with no incidents before running to the student section celebration. I just don't get it!! Safe travels back to Lexington... GO ROCKS! #19!

Did Lafayette think they were at home?

Supposedly the genius who is in charge of the Lexington Public school system is no longer going to let the publics play any private schools in anything. After last night I am sure Trinity is thinking "thank goodness". Lafayette brought no fans, their coaching staff lacked class (if not coaching ability) and I am certain that Ts freshman team could give Lafayette a game. At least the publics in Louisville are toughening up and moving in the right direction. Eastern, Ballard, Manual, Central, and a handful of others would all have beaten Lafayette by 4+ TDs.

It just seems like any team who disrespects the mid field logo in Louisville ends up losing. I know it's happened at least once at Trinity (Henry Clay) and the Cards have had a pretty good record when opponents do the same. Apparently they take that type of behavior pretty seriously in the Ville.

 

I don't really think the game would have been more competitive had they not "angered" Trinity.

^ There is a difference. Trinity likely would've played well, and would've won the game handily. But when someone blatantly dis-respects you in that way, you amp it up a notch or two...it happens, I know.

Conversely, a team shouldn't have to be goaded by wome sort of disrespectful action like stomping on the opposition's mid-field logo to become "up" for the game.

 

I will say this....the people who are within the Trinity football family are extremely proud of their program, but tangibly, of their stadium. It is with the monies of all those whin that family that the stadium exists. They take enormous pride in it, and everything on that field, including the "T". Maybe that's why the feeling of disrespect is not something to be overlooked.

It was a sign of disrespect, no less.

 

At your own field huddle in the middle of the field before the game, dance on the logo, do whatever you want. On the road show some class and respect for your opponent.

Some Lafayette players refused to do stand on the T. Sad that players have more class

Lafayette showed little class the week before in a win over 3A Western Hills. Layfayette scored three TDs, but 2 of the scoring drives were under 20 yards (14 and 17 yards). Up 21-0 in the 4th quarter, Lafayette ran a fake punt and tried to score again to pad their margin of victory. It was Western Hills' Senior Night and the coaches from Lafayette allowed their team to conduct kick off drills into the Senior Night ceremony. After the game the Lafayette players did the throat slashing motion to the Western Hills' student section and asked the Western Hills's players how they liked getting their "butts" kicked. Can not believe they jumped on the "T" the next week!!

The score was 14-0, when Lafayette ran the Fake punt. By no means is 14-0 running up the score or padding their margin of victory.

Lafayette also had permission from Coach Miller to continue with their pregame activities, and they were not kicking into the senior night festivities. You may want to stop embelishing the facts.

At the end of the game Lafayette usually prays with the other team no matter what. As I have watch them play this year I haven't seen them go out and just disrespect any team. They just try to get better each week. So i really think things have been blown out of whack. T is a great a program and deserves respect they have earned and Lafayette football respect them fully.

That is good to know....hope it was just a misunderstanding. WAs not there to see for myself. Sometimes it is difficult to discern intent.

I agree. Going into a game like that as an underdog, you hope that your opponent overlooks you, you do some good things, gain some confidence and stay close in the game. You never EVER, do something like this. If they didn't have Trinity's attention, this sure did the trick. Just not a very smart thing to do.

 

To paraphrase Jim Croce:

Trinity's freshman team would have beaten Lafayette by 3 touchdowns.
