November 8, 200817 yr The things I like so far - the attitude of the team, the fact that even walkons get a chance to play if they give 110%, the overall athleticism of the team, there are a few shooters on the team that we haven't had lately, we have a deep bench Things I'm concerned about - we struggled mightily in the first half without Patterson in the middle, Liggins and Galloway still aren't coming around as planned, Jared Carter still doesn't impress

November 8, 200817 yr The main issue is getting in to the offense. Certainly correctable over time, but clearly not there yet... This will be a good team come SEC play, but they aren't ready to go into North Carolina just yet. :thumb:
November 8, 200817 yr We'll get to find out a lot more about this team when they face an opponent that can actually defend. I see a lot of similarities in UK and UC, and I think both have a lot of questions to be answered when it comes to scoring in the half court... This team they played is going to be one of the better defensive teams as far as the back court that they will see. This is one of the few teams that constantly pressure the ball. I agree with you that the game may be different when they play a team with good post defense and peremiter defense. I am anxious to see how they play next friday. VMI last year was the highest scoring offense in the nation.

Kind of agree except UK has a beast inside that can score on anyone and their wing scorer isn't forced to handle the ball. Vaughn got a bad break when Wright went down. I'm also guessing that UK is going to look to get easier baskets early w/o having to set up in the half court.

It's very similar when comparing the two...
November 8, 200817 yr Vaughn has Williams and Gates in the post this year. It's very similar when comparing the two... To an extent. Gates is unproven as of now compared to Patterson. UK looks like they are going to play faster than I see UC playing, and Meeks is off the ball.
November 8, 200817 yr Author Cats looked a little more mortal last night. Hopefully brought them back to earth a little.
November 8, 200817 yr Overall, I thought they looked good. It was nice to see them come out after halftime like they did. Certainly a far cry from what I've been used to the last 10 years.
November 9, 200817 yr If UK keeps playing Michael Porter a lot this year...it won't be much if any improvement from last year. Porter is not any good. Play Miller, Liggins, Galloway, or Meeks at the point. Anyone would be better than Porter.
November 9, 200817 yr Miller and Harrelson didn't play much tonight. Wonder why? They were lights out in the first ex. game. I would play both a lot..

Play Miller, Liggins, Galloway, or Meeks at the point. Anyone would be better than Porter. Miller couldn't run the point on this level IMO, and Liggins isn't much to me I have not been impressed at all, and Meeks at point? Your best shooter needs to be spotting up, and taking the ball off the dribble, not running point. Porter is a smart player, IMO the smartest they can have at point. Play him..

Porter might start in the beginning of the season, but I will bet it isn't long before he is replaced and sent to the end of the bench.
