October 30, 200817 yr This is articulating what we've been saying all along. My problem is not with the BCS. It is with the lack of uniformity in college football. If the Big 10 (11) had a Conference Championship Game then I wouldn't have a problem. The fact that they do not bothers me. So does the fact that they do not play all of the top teams in their own conference. In short, until the Big 10 gets a conference championship game, they'll continue to be a sham. Neither does the Big 12 or the SEC. They play the 5 from their side and 3 from the other side. Leaving 3 teams unplayed. Sometimes those are the top teams and sometimes not.

Yes, but with a Conference Championship Game they at least have to play the best team in the other division. There's no way for the SEC or Big 12 Champ to dodge the 2nd best team like there is in the Big 10.

Right, but, as AverageJoe said, they have a conference championship. I knew about the 12-team requirement, just slipped my mind. Anybody know how long that rule has been around, and why it was implemented? In theory, I actually like the BCS. It typically creates pretty good matchups throughout the bowl season too. I think if the NCAA could somehow level the field among conferences, the BCS formula would be much more effective. And by that I mean get everybody on the same page regarding conference championships.

Other than saying "They're not as bad as the Big East," which no one here will argue with this season, what else do you have to contribute? Frankly the top teams from the two conferences in the posts mentioned above would likely get beaten badly against the top teams from the SEC, Big 12 and PAC-10. In fact we already saw that this year with the PAC-10 and the Big 10. The Big East has been pathetic this season, no doubt.
