October 28, 200817 yr "I'm disappointed. It stinks," Hartline said. "You don't ever expect to win the starting job and then lose it because the guys around you aren't performing the way they should. It's disappointing, but at the same time, it's best for the team. I'm a team player, and that's just the way it has to be." Hartline said he wasn't surprised by the change, noting that Cobb has "been doing a great job," and with his running ability "does things I can't do." "The worst part about it to me is there was nothing that I could have done to get better on the practice field to change that decision," Hartline said. "We're not productive at other (positions). We've got to do something. I can't not respect the decision. The coaches have jobs, too. They've got to do what they have to do." link  Wow... add "lack of leadership" to the "strikes against Hartline" category.
October 28, 200817 yr link  Wow... add "lack of leadership" to the "strikes against Hartline" category. And "throwing your teammates under the bus"....:scared:
October 28, 200817 yr These were his exact sentiments in the postgame interview he did at UF. From his perspective, none of it is his fault.
October 28, 200817 yr So, what FCS school will he be playing for next year??? That was my first thought as well.
October 28, 200817 yr What a clown. I stood up for him early in the season but his play of late and these comments are inexcusable. GT hit the nail on the head. Newton and Mossakowski are licking their chops right now.
October 28, 200817 yr ^I've defended Hartline all season as well. But, this really irks me. Whether that's true or not, a QB shouldn't say it. I don't want a guy with that kind of attitude and mentality leading my team. I'd say Newton was licking his chops anyway from just watching Hartline play.
October 28, 200817 yr I think instead of blaming his shortcomings on what his teammates have not done, I think it would be more accurate to say that the only plays which have kept him starting at QB have been the resut of his teammates doing something spectacular. (i.e. Cobb's catches vs. Arkansas, Ford getting free on a busted coverage vs. Alabama and Dicky's YAC on the screen for the other TD, great plays by the defense to put points on the board vs. So. Carolina and UL, etc)
October 28, 200817 yr Are we blasting him for saying it or because he's right? Is there a worse stable of receivers in college football than the ones in Lexington right now? Even with Lyons they weren't great. There is no deep threat and the only receiver capable of catches 10 passes in a game is starting at quarterback this week.

I don't care if he puts the ball on the money every time, and he hardly ever does, you don't blame it all on the other guys on your team. You don't here Carson Palmer or Big Ben talking on tv that their o line is terrible and not protecting them even though its true.He lost all respect from his team for saying it is all their fault and none of his.

Even with Lyons they weren't great. There is no deep threat and the only receiver capable of catches 10 passes in a game is starting at quarterback this week. For me, my problem is him saying it. I absolutely believe there is some truth to what he said. But, the QB and leader of the team doesn't say things like that publicly to the media, IMO. Hartline getting benched is more about the current situation at UK than his actual play, IMO. On a team with solid and dependable skill talent to surround the QB, I'd prefer a guy like Hartline who stays in the pocket and distributes the ball. That's not the case at UK. Cobb and his playmaking ability give them their best chance to generate some offense and win games. Publicly critcizing your teammates and laying the blame/pointing the finger at them for your misfortune doesn't bode well, IMO. I question whether his teammates would leave it on the field for him after this and if that's the case, he can't be your starting QB. Hartline may have removed himself from next year's QB competition a little early...
October 28, 200817 yr Hey WR's he is talking to you. He may have been throwing the OL and RB's in there a little as well.
October 28, 200817 yr I'm not following here. If the receiver drops the ball, who gets the blame? Who got benched? While he should have been a little more tactful in his comments, if it were Randall Cobb making the comments, he would be called "a leader calling out his team". I'm not a huge Hartline fan. I think Cobb gives them a better chance to move the football because it allows Joker to call plays that the team worked on with Pulley at QB in practice. But Cobb hasn't set the world on fire as a quarterback. I just can't understand how an SEC team with a full compliment of schollys can be so woefully thin at receiver.
