October 28, 200817 yr I agree... and I hate to see it come to that! Vince Young had so much potential IMHO... It's a shame to see him completely break down the way he has. He may be alright eventually. If not, the Titans have the pieces in place to make life easier for any QB.

He won't lose games for you and he's a veteran, feels the rush well, gets the ball out timely and makes the right reads. He's not gonna throw the 65 yd fly pattern, but they don't need that. They run it, play solid D and don't make critical mistakes. All a testament to the HC. Now, here's where I think the coach had a significant affect last night. Fish sent his guys to the line immediately after seeing the replay of an obvious fumble to avoid review, did Dungy not have as clear a view of the jumbotron? Throw the flag. I know that the officials didn't signal the Colts recovered, however, one of them definitely came up with the ball out of that fray. Once again, cudos to Fish and the Titans. A force to be reckoned with in the AFC, unless they put VY back under center.

There's a decent shot that the game will be meaningless at that point. Considering that the teams who lock up their spot and shut it down early end up playing bad and losing in the playoffs, I'm not sure racing out to such a huge lead is good for Tennessee. :lol: I think they're the two best teams in the AFC right now. Both offenses are solid, but the defenses are dominating. That bodes well for the playoffs. At this point, a Steelers/Titans playoff matchup would seem likely. But, there's a lot of football to be played. The Titans are far from unbeatable, but I'm confident with the way they match up against anybody when they're healthy. I think the experience some of the younger defensive lineman are getting and the way they're playing with Vanden Bosch out really bodes well for the future.
October 28, 200817 yr This is Titan football at its best... Trailing 14-6 in the third quarter, the Titans got possession of the ball on their own 20 yard line with 11:06 remaining in the period. After a 14 play, 80 yard drive that culminated in a TD and a game-tying 2-point conversion (a decision I didn't agree with at that point, but it worked) and consumed 7:45 off the clock, the Colts took over with 3:21 to play in the period. The Titans then proceeded to stop Indy in four plays with a huge stuff on 4th and 1 at midfield. That set up a 6 play, 17 yard drive that resulted in a FG to give them a 17-14 lead. After stopping the Colts again on downs... The Titans took over on their own 34 yard line with 11:28 to play in the game. This time they finished off a 13 play, 66 yard drive in 6:51 with a TD that put them ahead by 10 and left the Colts with only 4:37 to score, get a stop and score again. They wear teams down with their physical, punishing style for 60 minutes. And, last night they proved that they can beat you through the air if you over-committ to the stopping the run. For people (like me), who love old-school, smash-mouth football, the prospect of a potential Titans vs. Steelers AFC Title game and then a possible Titans/Steelers vs. NY Giants Super Bowl is mouth watering good. I know there's a lot of football to be played, but here's to hoping...

October 28, 200817 yr BTW, I must say I enjoyed seeing the Titans pass the ball down the field twice to put the game away against Indy while hanging 31 points on the scoreboard. Why? Because I'm a Titans fan, obviously. But, aside from that, as much I like Steve Young as an analyst, I loathe listening to him talk about the Titans. He acts like he has a vendetta against them because they win with running and defense and they refused to draft a WR in the first round of the '08 draft (forget the fact that the addition of Chris Johnson has totally transformed this offense). Earlier in the year, he said, "The Titans do a great job of winning games 13-10, but you have to score points to win in this leage." Basically, implying they weren't a serious threat because of that. OK, fair enough, I suppose, if you're right. But, here are the facts...you can win with a great defense, a strong running game and a complementary passing game. There have been more Super Bowl winners in that mold this decade than vice versa. More to the point, what he says about Tennessee isn't applicable to date in 2008. This year, the Titans... 1) ...are one of 11 teams in the league averaging 25+ points per game. At 25.7, they are ninth in the league in ppg. 2) ...are averaging 27.2 ppg with Kerry Collins as the starter. That would be put them ahead of the Saints and Jets and put them at seventh best in the league. 3) ...have scored 24+ points in all but two games. One was the opener with VY at QB (17 points) and the other was @ Baltimore against one of the best defenses in the NFL (13 points). 4) ...have scored 30+ points 4 times this year. What does Steve Young say last night? "They did a good job with the passing game last night and I know they scored 31 points, but going forward, I don't think they'll be able to do that every week." No kidding, Steve. Not many teams do score 30+ on a weekly basis. The good news is they don't have to. 20+ gives them an excellent chance to win every week with their defense, and they're more than capable of doing that. Anyway, I just wanted to vent a little. And I like Steve Young. He's one of my favorite analysts on ESPN. But, his offensive bias affects his analysis sometimes, IMO. He picks the team that is perceived to have the better offense when most times good defense is what makes the difference.
October 28, 200817 yr The Titans are a very good team right now. They do not have an explosive offense, but they are built to win in the playoffs, which is what it takes to win a super bowl. They have a very good running game and a solid defense. It'll come down to them and the Steelers IMO in the AFC.
