Congrats to Will Deters for breaking a long standing CovCath offense rushing record with 331 yards of rushing today.

117 yards of offense for Holmes with 90 of them coming in the second half.

Game was over early and many in the stands thought that the JV should have been inserted much, much earlier than they were. JV was put into play in the fourth quarter and played well and held onto the shutout for the Colonels. Young Slayback (sp?) could be something next year!

At the very least, I'm sure the JV parents did.

I don't have much of a problem leaving the starters in as long as they were. They need to develop some continuity and confidence.

Slabaugh? The sophomore?

That is why they are in the stands with you and me; they don't know what is best for the TEAM.

Why are you CONSTANTLY so on the defensive? It was tasteless to leave Deters in there as long as he was left in, among some other key players. Jv should have been implemented sooner than it was. And I was NOT one of the people in the stands whining about it; that's just how it is.

I agree. I too was at the game and thought Deters and Van Sant being in the game up 35-0 was kind of ridiculous. CCH passing 4 straight plays to score when already up 28-0 (knowing they could do whatever they wanted running the ball since Holmes couldn't stop it), showed little class.

Holmes wasn't going to score whether the varsity of JV was in. No way starters should have still been in for CCH in the 4th quarter with 8 minutes left and up 42-0.

On a positive note though, I thought Covington of Holmes looked great running the ball. I'd hope that Lickert would start using him more. He would have a nice run or two and then be taken out of the game.

This Covington Catholic team has hard a tough year and has been under a lot of scrutiny from people on here.

I was not at the game, but I have no problem leaving the starters in. It's not like CCH has been blowing teams out all year. They've been on the wrong side of a few big games and need all of the work & confidence they can get for the stretch run.

I know Holmes has been struggling, but I feel like this is a big win for CCH. Hopefully they can get some build momentum from this.

Holmes hasn't scored in 3 weeks...

Literally?

If so, that's a huge wow.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you. I just think if CCH were going to pass and pass long they should have done it earlier in the game. They got up 28-0then started passing for 4 or 5 straight plays which went for 10-20 yard gains each time before turning the ball over. On the next possession Holmes had a turnover and the first play I believe it was, CCH threw deep to Van Sant for a TD.

I guess you just had to be at the game to realize that the game wasn't as close as the score might seem. I understand teams need to work on things, especially CCH who has played a brutal schedule this year, but I just feel like once you get up 42-0 midway through the 3rd quarter, there's no need for your starters to still be in with 7-8 minutes left in the 4th when the game is more than in hand.

Holmes offense has really struggled as of late since their starting QB was lost for the season.

Just curious, do you think beating a team 70 - 6 shows class?
