I thought Highlands played much better in the second half, holding the Tigers to just 1 TD while posting 2 of their own. That was impressive. I credit the Birds coaching staff for keeping their kids heads up and inspiring them to play faster and harder in the second half.

Great defensive timing by X on this play prevented Kyle Wells from coming down with the ball in the end zone.

 

The X defender is Matt Anderson. The Tiger sideline erupted on that play because Matt is a backup and stands all of 5'5.

35-14 is the exact score that I had predicted in the prediction thread before the game...WAY TO GO TIGERS!!! :ylsuper:

 

The #4 RB that is mentioned above is Lamont McMurray. He has been out injured all season, and just participated in his first JV game last Monday against Pleasure Ridge Park (reference my remarks in the St. X./PRP JV thread). In that game, Lamont ran for two TD's and caught a pass for another TD. He had two other long TD runs called back for a penalty. To many X followers, he looks like the second coming of Victor Anderson (the Barry Sanders of Tigertown). We are all very excited about watching him perform at the varsity level for the next two years.

 

Was #27, Daylen Hall, there today for the game? He is every bit as exciting as Lamont at RB, plus he is a great SS/LB on defense as well.

 

Another outstanding sophomore RB is Jay Hayden (#2), who has been out for the past three JV games with injury. Did he play today?

 

Needless to say, St. X. is LOADED at RB in the sophomore class. :thumb:

I thought one of the turning points in this game was a 4th and 1 in the 2nd qtr and the Birds were only down 2 scores and driving on the ST. X 30 or 40 yrd line. My question to most of you armchair QB's like me is when you need 1 yrd why do most teams stay in their spread formation/shotgun?

 

This allows the Defense to get penetration and slows the play when you are running the football. Why not set up a power formation and allow the QB to go on the goose or do a sneak? Heck, let him run a bootleg out of a power formation, something other than the same formation you have been using the entire game.

 

I think if they could have gotten the first down and marched down and scored it may have been a different outcome. I gotta hand it to the Birds for playing tough in the 2nd half.

Sorry to change the thread but rumor has it that Boyle Co. and Highlands (jv) are trying to work out a game. Any info?

St X fumbled twice in the is half including the first series. I do not see how this outcome could have been different.

Unless Beechwood cancels, it is the only game we have left. Highlands will not play any JV games after next Sat.
