I know Trent Maddux for Gallatin County is the real deal. I watched him in last years region win over Anderson Co. and I thought he looked better than C.J. Penny.

Problem with guys like Penny, Maddox, and others of the same ilg is that they really need someone else to draw some attention from them. Otherwise the other teams key on them and it becomes increasingly difficult for the stars to get theirs. I look for teams to focus on containing these players because of a lack of a supporting cast. Not to say the other teammates aren't any good, but they had better be a formidable threat to put in 20 during any game.

Can I get some info on North Oldham? Such as starters, heights, positions, etc.

North went 20-9 last year, winning the 29th and losing to Gallatin in the 8th Region SF. They lost 6 seniors to graduation, including star forward Mike Rowan and all 6 played significant minutes on a team that regularly played 10-12 players a lot... It was not unusual for a "sub" to lead the team in scoring, and the team used several different starting lineups...

 

Among the returnees are three solid inside players, 6'5" senior Dale Tingle (last year's heights), 6'6" senior Kyle Feuquay, and 6'4" sophomore Devin Rowan, whose raw talent is scary. Alex Foley, a 5'10" junior who led the team in scoring the second half of last year, returns, along with Chris Menefee, a 5'8" senior guard who is a superb point.

 

Tyler St. Julien, who was ineligible last year, should see significant minutes, as will 6'3" guard Jacob Creech, and 5'10" guard Andrew Tuller.

 

North will play a fast-paced, aggressive offense and an in-your-face, pressing defense.

 

They led the 8th Region in scoring last year at 69 ppg...

 

Last year, North beat Shelby, split two games with Gallatin, lost to Anderson by 2 in OT, lost to Owen County by 5 in OT, beat Oldham County twice, and split with South Oldham.

 

North will have the size and ability to pound the ball inside, and plenty of depth to expend fouls on defense in the interior. They generally shoot the three very well.

 

This is a well-coached team, and Danny Edelen and staff seem to have created a mind-set among the players that is conducive to success.

Let me say it this way... If I had a 6'8" kid on my team that has talent, he had better be touching the ball most every trip down the floor. Especially when most of the teams they play will not have a kid over 6'3". Some of the fans for OC that I have talked to over the summer have indicated this is not the case.

Penny is the real deal, and I am not taking anything away from him. But last year when I saw the match up between him(Penny) and Maddox, it seemed that he was not very good outside the 10-15 foot range. While I saw Maddox was very good all over the floor.

Not only is Trent Maddox a good basketball player, he is a great young man as well. Good Luck to Trent and Gallatan Co!

Maddox is a good player. No doubt. But to compare him to Penny is the craziest thing I have ever read. Penny had 17 and 10 in the regional tournament and had mono. He didn't go to school for 2 weeks after that game. Penny is a career 20 and 10 man.

And yet Gallatin still moved on in the Tournament.

I totally agree. I think these people haven't been to enough of Penny's games in AAU leagues, and are limited to the Gallatin games they see. Penny is a whole other calibur of player.

I don't think it is crazy at all. Both mean about as much as the other to their respective teams. Does Penny have some physical abilities that Maddox might not have? Sure. Maddox is able to do things with the ball that Penny can't do. Both are very nice players and I think a comparison is very fair.

Both are very nice players, but you can't compare a player that is having mid-major D1 schools looking at him (Penny) to Maddox. Maddox is a excellent ball player but is not D1 callibur.
